PM Modi Reviews Reforms, Ease of Living and Doing Business with Council of Ministers

New Delhi, May 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a detailed deliberation with the Council of Ministers focusing on reforms, ease of living, and ease of doing business. The meeting was held in the evening at Delhi’s Seva Teerth and marked the first full gathering of the Council of Ministers this year.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister described the meeting as fruitful, stating that it provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives and best practices aimed at improving governance outcomes. “We exchanged perspectives and best practices relating to boosting ‘Ease of Living’, ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and how to further reforms in order to realise our shared dream of a Viksit Bharat,” PM Modi said.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasised the importance of next-generation reforms to accelerate India’s growth trajectory. He also highlighted the need to diversify energy sources and adopt alternative energy solutions in view of disruptions caused by ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, which have impacted global energy markets and supply chains.

The discussions were held against the backdrop of rising international uncertainties, with special focus on ways to shield the domestic economy from external shocks. Key ministries and departments made presentations before the Prime Minister outlining strategies to minimise the impact of global volatility on businesses, industries, and consumers.

Officials also reviewed ongoing policy reforms and initiatives aimed at improving administrative efficiency and reducing regulatory burdens. The government’s broader objective, as discussed in the meeting, is to further simplify compliance frameworks and enhance India’s attractiveness as an investment destination.

All Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State with independent charge, and Ministers of State attended the meeting. The wide participation reflected the government’s intent to ensure coordinated implementation of reform measures across sectors.

Ahead of the meeting, various ministries had submitted detailed reports to the Cabinet Secretariat. These reports outlined reforms undertaken over the past two years, progress on flagship government schemes, and future action plans aimed at improving governance delivery.

The meeting is seen as part of the government’s continued push to accelerate structural reforms, strengthen economic resilience, and move closer to the vision of a developed India, or “Viksit Bharat,” through sustained policy improvements and innovation-driven governance.
