Single-Window System to Be Introduced for ‘Live Events’ Permissions: Principal Secretary and Director General Brijesh Singh

Mumbai, May 2026 : In a major move to boost the state’s live events industry, the Maharashtra government will introduce a “single-window” system for granting permissions related to live events. The Directorate General of Information and Public Relations (DGIPR) has been appointed as the nodal agency for the initiative. Principal Secretary and Director General of DGIPR, Brijesh Singh, appealed to all concerned departments to provide suggestions and extend cooperation for preparing a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for live event clearances.

He was speaking at the first meeting of the state-level committee constituted under the Government Resolution dated April 24, 2026, aimed at promoting and developing the live events sector. The meeting was held at the Mantralaya conference hall.

Among those present were MahaIT Commissioner Bhuvaneshwari B., Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) Pravin Salunkhe, Deputy Secretary of the General Administration Department Samruddhi Angolkar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Akbar Pathan, and other officials. Director (Administration) of DGIPR Kishor Gangurde gave a presentation on the proposed SOP for live events.

Brijesh Singh said that at present, organizers of large-scale events are required to obtain separate permissions from multiple departments, including police, fire services, electricity authorities, municipal corporations, and revenue departments. This often results in delays and a lengthy approval process. To address this issue, the government plans to streamline the system by reducing the time, paperwork, and procedural complexities involved in obtaining permissions.

He further informed that the state government is also developing a dedicated digital portal to make the single-window clearance process faster and more efficient.

The Maharashtra government is preparing a state-specific SOP by incorporating necessary modifications into the Model SOP (Model Executive Order) issued by the Central government for promoting the live entertainment economy across the country. An action plan is also being formulated for effective implementation.

Singh emphasized that since the live entertainment economy involves coordination among several departments within the state administration, all departments must complete related procedures within a fixed timeline and work collectively to ensure seamless implementation.

The proposed framework aims to create an efficient and industry-friendly system for coordinating permissions related to live events, concerts, and associated activities, based on the Centre’s Model Live Event Clearance Standard Operating Procedure.

According to officials, the initiative is expected to simplify and accelerate the process of organizing live events in Maharashtra, thereby providing a major boost to the live entertainment industry. The move is also likely to promote tourism, attract investment, and generate employment opportunities across the state.

During the meeting, officials from various departments, including the police, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, fire services, BEST undertaking, rural development, state archaeology, and information technology departments, offered suggestions for the preparation of the SOP.
