Lucknow, May 2026 : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday, during a review meeting of the Ayush Department, directed officials to take effective action towards implementing the ‘Ayush Health and Wellness Policy-2026’ in the state. Chief Minister said, “Uttar Pradesh should not remain limited only to a treatment-based system, but should be developed as a major wellness destination at the national and international level through the integration of Ayush, Yoga, Panchakarma, naturopathy, and wellness services.”

He added, such a model should be prepared by linking Ayush services with modern management, quality standards, and tourism, so that along with healthcare services, employment and investment also receive new momentum.

Chief Minister stated, “The state’s spiritual and cultural heritage, traditions of Ayurveda and Yoga, and religious tourism circuits should be linked with the Ayush wellness sector. There are vast possibilities for developing wellness and healing-based tourism around major religious destinations such as Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Mathura.”

He directed that Ayush institutions should be developed not only as treatment centres but also as centres for wellness, training, research, and employment generation.

In the meeting, it was informed that the state currently has 3,953 Ayush health units, 1,034 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, 225 Yoga Wellness Centres, and 19 Ayush medical colleges in operation. Chief Minister directed, “Ayush services should be expanded in a quality-oriented and standardized manner. For this, phased action should be taken through the PPP model for developing modern Ayush wellness centres, 100-bed integrated Ayush treatment and training centres, and the upgradation of Ayush colleges.”

Various provisions of the proposed policy were discussed in detail during the meeting. Under the policy, it has been proposed to develop Integrated Centres of Excellence, Ayush wellness and treatment centres, integrated institutions with training facilities, and Ayush college-based models. These centres will also include Panchakarma, Yoga, naturopathy, digital health services, as well as research and innovation activities.

Chief Minister said, “Active participation of the private sector is essential to promote the Ayush-based wellness economy. Investors should be provided speedy approvals through a single-window system and that a clear time-bound action plan should be prepared for the implementation of projects.”

In the meeting it was informed that the proposed policy includes provisions for investment-based subsidies, operational incentives, interest subsidies, exemption in stamp duty, and employment generation-based incentives. Special incentives have also been proposed for Ayush research, innovation, and environment-friendly projects.

Chief Minister directed officials to expedite the establishment of integrated Ayush colleges in the divisions of Mirzapur, Gonda, Meerut, Agra, and Basti. These institutions should be developed as centres of excellence for modern Ayush treatment, training, and research.

While reviewing departmental works, the Chief Minister directed officials to improve OPD services in Ayush medical institutions, ensure adequate availability of medicines, and promote traditional treatment methods such as Panchakarma. Ayush services should be linked with public trust and quality, ensuring better treatment and wellness facilities for patients.

Chief Minister also emphasized accelerating research and innovation activities at Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath Ayush University. He directed that the process for appointing permanent faculty members at the university be completed soon and that the university be developed as a centre of excellence in the field of traditional Ayush systems of medicine.
