Kirtan Breaks the Bonds of Maya; Faith Gives Strength to Devotion

There Is No Retirement in the Service of Lord Raghavendra: Jagadguru Rambhadracharya

Lucknow, June 2026 : On Tuesday, during the second day of the musical Shri Ram Katha, Jagadguru Rambhadracharya continued his discourse on Navadha Bhakti (the nine forms of devotion), highlighting the importance of kirtan (devotional singing) and unwavering faith in God.

He said that kirtan is one of the foremost means of attaining devotion. In Sanskrit, Maya (illusion) is described as a dancer, and when the word is symbolically reversed, it becomes kirtan. According to him, when a person engages in kirtan, the influence of Maya gradually diminishes on its own. He further stated that another important foundation of devotion is unwavering faith in God. For a person who possesses true faith, the path to the Divine becomes effortless.

Addressing the nine-day Shri Ram Katha being held at the Brij Ki Rasoi complex on Sitapur Road, Rambhadracharya conveyed the message of Karma Yoga, saying that every individual should perform their duties with dedication and sincerity. Referring to Lord Krishna’s teachings in the Bhagavad Gita, he said that human beings have authority only over their actions. When a person fulfills responsibilities honestly, rights and rewards naturally follow. The path to success, he said, lies through diligence and commitment to duty.

Rambhadracharya emphasized that true service is service to Lord Raghavendra. While government employment eventually ends in retirement, there is never any retirement in the service of God. There is no concern about pensions either, because the Lord Himself takes care of the welfare and sustenance of His devotees. He urged people to devote as much of their lives as possible to public welfare and the service of God.

During his address, Rambhadracharya also recalled the Ram Janmabhoomi Movement. He said that unarmed devotees of Lord Ram were fired upon, the Kothari brothers were killed, and many kar sevaks sacrificed their lives. Even during those difficult times, he said, he had complete faith in divine providence and believed that those sacrifices would not go in vain.

Referring to the events of December 6, 1992, he described them as a significant turning point in Indian history. He said that what he viewed as a stain on India’s forehead was consigned to the waters of the Sarayu River. He remarked that a structure which, in his view, could not have been brought down even with bulldozers was ultimately demolished. He added that he considers that day to have been a divine manifestation and referred to it as the “Kar Sevak Avatar.”

During the discourse, Rajni Tiwari, Pawan Das, Neeraj Bora, the Vice-Chancellor of Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Divyang State University, and several distinguished guests received blessings from the Vyas Peeth.

On the occasion, Ajit Srivastava, Ashish Agrawal, Bharat Bhushan Gupta, Sanjeev Agrawal, festival General Secretary Rakesh Pandey, Convener Saurav Bandyopadhyay, Kanupriya Jaju, Bindu Bora, Vatsal Bora, Sunil Agrawal, Dr. Ajay Gupta, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak among the dignitaries present and other hosts participated in a special aarti ceremony.

Media in-charge Dr. S.K. Gopal informed that the Shri Ram Katha will continue on Wednesday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the evening.
