Nara Lokesh Continues Russia Investment Mission Despite Security Alert Near St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg, June 2026: Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh continued with his scheduled participation in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) despite heightened security concerns following reported drone attacks near the Russian city, reaffirming his focus on attracting global investments to the state.
The security alert emerged just hours before the commencement of SPIEF, one of Russia’s premier international business and economic gatherings. The alert followed reports of drone activity linked to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, prompting authorities to increase security measures in and around St. Petersburg.
At the time of the incident, Nara Lokesh was travelling from Moscow to St. Petersburg to attend a series of pre-planned meetings with investors, business leaders, and industry representatives. He was informed about the developments while en route, leading to security assessments and precautionary reviews by the concerned authorities.
Despite the tense situation, Lokesh decided to proceed with his scheduled engagements and participate in the forum without any changes to his itinerary.
Sources familiar with the visit said the decision reflected Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to maintaining strong engagement with international investors and honouring commitments made to potential business partners. In an increasingly competitive global investment environment, consistency and reliability in government outreach are viewed as key factors in building investor confidence.
After arriving safely in St. Petersburg, Lokesh continued his meetings with industry leaders and business executives. During these interactions, he highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s strengths as an investment destination and showcased opportunities across sectors such as manufacturing, technology, infrastructure, logistics, renewable energy, and industrial development.
The minister is understood to have emphasised the state government’s investor-friendly policies, infrastructure expansion plans, and efforts to position Andhra Pradesh as a major economic hub.
While the reported drone attacks attracted global attention and raised security concerns in the region, Lokesh remained focused on his agenda of promoting economic partnerships and attracting investments that could contribute to Andhra Pradesh’s growth and job creation goals.
His participation in SPIEF comes as Andhra Pradesh intensifies efforts to secure international investments and strengthen economic ties with global businesses. The minister’s visit is aimed at presenting the state’s development vision and exploring opportunities for collaboration with companies looking to expand their presence in India.
By continuing his engagements despite the security alert, Lokesh signalled the state government’s determination to pursue investment opportunities and maintain momentum in its international outreach initiatives.
