Andhra CM Orders High-Level Probe into Missing Youth Case, Suspends Police Officer

Amaravati, June 2026 : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday ordered a high-level investigation into the mysterious disappearance of a young man from Vijayawada and the serious allegations made by his family that he was tortured to death while in police custody. The Chief Minister also directed the immediate suspension of a police officer facing allegations in connection with the case.

The case concerns 25-year-old Gade Sai Krishna, who has been missing for more than a month after reportedly being taken into custody by police during an investigation. His family has alleged that he died in police custody and that efforts were made to conceal the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

Soon after returning from his official visit to Singapore, Chief Minister Naidu convened an urgent review meeting at the State Secretariat with senior police officials to assess the developments in the case. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan also attended the meeting, highlighting the seriousness with which the state government is treating the matter.

During the meeting, Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta and other senior officers briefed the Chief Minister on the facts gathered so far. After reviewing the situation, Naidu directed the DGP to ensure a comprehensive and impartial inquiry and ordered that the investigation be entrusted to a senior IPS officer.

The Chief Minister also ordered the suspension of Krishnalanka Circle Inspector Nagaraju, whose name has surfaced in connection with the allegations. Officials informed the meeting that the officer had already been shifted to the Vacant Reserve pending further action.

Naidu stressed that the investigation must be transparent and unbiased, while Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan called for strict action against anyone found responsible. Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Sai Prasad, Intelligence Chief Mahesh Chandra Laddha, Vijayawada Police Commissioner Rajasekhar Babu and other top administrators, were present during the review.

According to reports, Sai Krishna was taken into police custody on May 9 in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation. Though he reportedly had previous criminal cases registered against him, he never returned home after being picked up by the police.

Concerned over his disappearance, Sai Krishna’s mother, Vijayalakshmi, approached the Andhra Pradesh High Court by filing a habeas corpus petition seeking directions to produce her son before the court. Taking serious note of the matter, the High Court instructed police authorities to trace Sai Krishna and present him before the bench during the next hearing.

The incident has sparked a political controversy, with the opposition YSR Congress Party demanding an independent probe. Former minister and YSRCP Krishna District President Perni Venkatramaiah, popularly known as Perni Nani, called for either a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry or an investigation monitored by a sitting High Court judge.

Addressing the media, Perni Nani alleged that the incident reflected a breakdown of law and order in the state. He argued that even if Sai Krishna had criminal cases against him, no individual could be deprived of legal rights or subjected to extra-judicial punishment.

“Determining guilt and awarding punishment is the responsibility of courts, not the police,” he said, questioning why due legal procedures were allegedly not followed.

As the case gains public attention and judicial scrutiny, the state government’s decision to order a senior-level probe is expected to play a crucial role in establishing the facts and addressing concerns over police accountability. The investigation is likely to remain under close watch in the coming days as authorities seek answers regarding Sai Krishna’s disappearance.
