India Storm to 95-Run Win Over Netherlands, Climb to Top of Group A

Leeds, June 2026 : India produced a dominant all-round performance to crush the Netherlands by 95 runs in their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group A clash at Headingley on Wednesday. Powered by explosive batting from Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, followed by a clinical bowling display led by N. Sree Charani, India registered their second successive victory and moved to the top of the Group A standings.

The comprehensive win lifted India above Australia on net run rate, with the Women in Blue now boasting a superior net run rate of 3.98. The result also underlined India’s growing momentum in the tournament as they continued their impressive campaign with both bat and ball.

After being asked to bat, India posted a formidable 209/5 in 20 overs — their highest-ever total in the history of the Women’s T20 World Cup. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma laid the foundation with a commanding partnership that put the Dutch bowlers under relentless pressure from the outset.

Mandhana was at her elegant best, smashing 74 runs with a mixture of timing and power, while Shafali continued her aggressive approach to score a brisk 55. The duo dominated the powerplay and carried the momentum deep into the innings, ensuring India remained firmly in control.

The Netherlands struggled to contain the Indian batting line-up, and the pressure intensified during the closing overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh and all-rounder Deepti Sharma added valuable late runs, providing the finishing touches to a massive total that left the Dutch side facing a daunting challenge.

Chasing 210 for victory, the Netherlands began positively through Heather Siegers and Phebe Molkenboer, who struck several boundaries and briefly threatened to build a competitive platform. However, India’s bowlers remained patient and eventually broke through.

Nandini Sharma provided the first breakthrough by dismissing Siegers for 21, while Deepti Sharma removed Molkenboer soon after. Shafali Verma then made an impact with the ball, clean bowling Sterre Kalis as the Netherlands slipped into trouble.

The Dutch innings never fully recovered from those setbacks. Babette de Leede fought hard with a determined 28, but her dismissal triggered a dramatic collapse. From 96/4, the Netherlands lost wickets in quick succession as India’s spin attack tightened its grip on the contest.

Left-arm spinner N. Sree Charani emerged as the star performer with outstanding figures of 4/19. She dismantled the middle and lower order with a superb spell that effectively ended Dutch hopes. Shafali complemented her effort brilliantly, claiming 3/20, while India’s spinners collectively accounted for nine of the ten wickets that fell.

The Netherlands were eventually bowled out for 114 in 17.3 overs, handing India a convincing 95-run victory.

The only concern for India came when all-rounder Shreyanka Patil had to be stretchered off the field after twisting her right ankle during the match. The team management will be hoping the injury is not serious as the tournament progresses.

With batters firing and bowlers delivering consistently, India appear to be peaking at the right time and have now established themselves as one of the strongest contenders in the competition.

Brief Scores:

India Women: 209/5 in 20 overs

Netherlands Women: 114 all out in 17.3 overs
(Babette de Leede 28, Heather Siegers 21; N. Sree Charani 4/19, Shafali Verma 3/20)
