Decision on Sustainable Water Supply for Ichalkaranji to be Announced Soon: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai, June 2026 : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said that the Maharashtra government is committed to finding a long-term and sustainable solution to the water supply needs of Ichalkaranji city and its surrounding areas. He stated that a decision on the matter would be announced soon after examining various options, including measures to increase water storage capacity.

The Chief Minister made these remarks during a meeting held at his official residence, Varsha, to discuss the water supply issues faced by Ichalkaranji. The meeting was attended by Member of Parliament Dhairyasheel Mane, MLA Rahul Awade, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Ichalkaranji, Principal Secretary of the Water Resources Department Eknath Dawle, and senior officials from the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran.

During the meeting, MP Dhairyasheel Mane and MLA Rahul Awade made presentations on the growing water requirements of Ichalkaranji city, the availability of water resources from the Krishna River, and the drinking water needs of villages in the taluka.

Chief Minister Fadnavis noted that the Krishna River is a vital water source serving three states. He emphasized that the government would strive to ensure adequate water supply to the region without adversely affecting the interests of any other state.

The Chief Minister directed officials to explore various options for increasing water storage capacity as part of a sustainable water supply plan for Ichalkaranji. He said that once the study is completed, the government will review the technical, administrative, and financial aspects of the proposals before announcing a final decision.

Fadnavis also assured that there would be no shortage of funds for this important project. He said the government would consider providing long-term interest-free loans if necessary to support the implementation of the project.

In addition, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of strengthening local governance and financial management. He advised local self-government bodies to improve tax collection mechanisms and ensure strict compliance with regulations in the construction sector.

The proposed measures are aimed at addressing the increasing water demand in Ichalkaranji and ensuring a reliable and sustainable water supply system for residents and surrounding communities in the years ahead.
