Rohit Rayudu’s Unbeaten Fifty Leads Palamuru Strikers to Maiden TG20 Victory Over Medak Falcons

Hyderabad, June 2026 : Palamuru Strikers produced a clinical all-round display to register their first victory of the inaugural Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) TG20 League, defeating Medak Falcons by five wickets in the second match of the day on Thursday. A disciplined bowling effort followed by a composed run chase, anchored by Rohit Rayudu’s unbeaten half-century, ensured the Strikers crossed the finish line with 13 balls to spare.

After winning the toss, Palamuru Strikers opted to bowl and immediately justified the decision with an impressive display of disciplined seam bowling. Ravi Kiran gave the Falcons an early setback by dismissing opener Purnanand Rao for just one run in the opening over. He struck again in the fourth over, removing the dangerous Naman Agarwal for a brisk 21 off 13 deliveries, leaving the Falcons struggling to build momentum.

The batting side’s problems deepened after Ahwinan Ram retired out on 12. Captain Ravi Teja attempted to inject urgency with a quick 13 off seven balls, while Shrunjith Reddy contributed 19 from 19 deliveries. However, the Strikers continued to dominate, with Rathan Teja clean bowling Shrunjith before Rohit Rayudu chipped in with the ball by forcing Ravi Teja to edge behind to wicketkeeper Pragnay Reddy.

At 77/5, Medak Falcons found themselves under severe pressure. The responsibility of rebuilding the innings fell on Varun Yerram and Vikram Naik, who produced a crucial 64-run partnership. The pair batted sensibly, rotating the strike while waiting for scoring opportunities. Although boundaries were difficult to come by against the disciplined Strikers attack, both batters gradually settled in and helped the Falcons cross the 100-run mark in the 13th over.

Varun played an aggressive knock of 36 from 23 balls, while Vikram matched him with a composed 36 off 33 deliveries. Just as the partnership threatened to take the game away, Rishab Baslas delivered the decisive breakthrough. He dismissed Varun before striking again in the same over to remove Ishan Sharma for six, effectively ending the Falcons’ hopes of a strong finish.

Vikram continued to fight until the final over but eventually departed as Medak Falcons closed on 164/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Baslas finished with impressive figures of 2/33, while Ravi Kiran claimed 2/34 after setting the tone early.

Chasing 165 for victory, Palamuru Strikers suffered an early wobble. Varun Yerram made an immediate impact with the ball, dismissing Karan Yadav for a first-ball duck before removing Pragnay Reddy for 15 to leave the Strikers under pressure.

However, opener Vignesh Reddy and Rohit Rayudu responded with maturity and aggression. The duo stitched together a vital 59-run partnership in just 36 deliveries, shifting the momentum firmly in favour of the Strikers. Vignesh attacked the Falcons’ bowlers with confidence, striking 39 off only 22 balls and ensuring the required run rate remained under control.

His innings eventually came to an end when Syed Ghazi Abbas provided the Falcons with an important breakthrough. Shortly afterwards, Shrunjith Reddy dismissed Shadab Ahmed cheaply to briefly revive Medak’s hopes.

Despite the wickets, Rohit Rayudu remained calm and continued to anchor the innings. Displaying excellent shot selection and composure, he rotated the strike efficiently while punishing loose deliveries. He received valuable support from Rathan Teja, who contributed 23 runs from 20 balls before being bowled by Ravi Teja.

With the target drawing closer, Rohit reached his maiden half-century of the season in style by launching Shrunjith Reddy for a towering six in the 18th over. His unbeaten 54 off 42 deliveries proved to be the backbone of the successful chase.

The finishing touches were applied by Pratheek Pawar, who struck consecutive boundaries to complete the chase as Palamuru Strikers reached 165/5 in 17.5 overs, securing a convincing five-wicket victory with more than two overs remaining.

The comprehensive performance marked the Strikers’ first win of the tournament and showcased their balanced squad, with both bowlers and batters making significant contributions. While the bowling unit laid the foundation by restricting the Falcons to a manageable total, Rohit Rayudu’s composed knock and Vignesh Reddy’s explosive cameo ensured there were no major hiccups during the chase.

Brief Scores:

Medak Falcons: 164/9 in 20 overs (Vikram Naik 36, Varun Yerram 36; Rishab Baslas 2/33, Ravi Kiran 2/34)
