BJP Will Come to Power in Telangana in 2028, Local Body Polls to Mark Beginning: Nitin Nabin
Hyderabad, June 2026 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin on Tuesday urged party workers in Telangana to intensify their grassroots outreach and take people’s issues to the streets, expressing confidence that the BJP would form its own government in the state in the 2028 Assembly elections.
Addressing the BJP’s state executive meeting on the concluding day of his three-day visit to Telangana, Nabin called upon party leaders and workers to become the voice of the people and lead public movements on issues affecting citizens.
“If a change has to be brought in Telangana, BJP workers must take the people’s issues to the streets. If our leaders become the voice of the people and stand with them in every struggle, then 2028 will belong to the BJP,” he said.
The BJP president said the party had already established itself as a major political force in Telangana by securing around 35 per cent of the vote share in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He described the result as a clear indication of the growing public acceptance of the BJP in the state and urged party workers to build on that momentum through sustained public engagement.
According to him, the enthusiasm among BJP karyakartas and the increasing support from the electorate reflected a significant shift in Telangana’s political landscape.
Recalling the party’s historical roots in the state, Nabin noted that Telangana had played an important role in the BJP’s early growth.
“In 1984, when the BJP had only two Members of Parliament, one of them was from Telangana. This is the land where the lotus bloomed during the party’s formative years. Today, the BJP governs 22 states because people across the country have placed their faith in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
Highlighting the party’s electoral strategy, Nabin asserted that the BJP contests elections based on its governance record and developmental achievements rather than relying solely on criticism of political opponents.
“We make our achievements the central issue during elections. Over the past 12 years, the country has witnessed transformative development under Prime Minister Modi. The biggest strength of our government is that we fulfil the promises we make, unlike the Congress, which repeatedly fails to honour its commitments,” he remarked.
He claimed that the Narendra Modi-led government had consistently worked for the welfare of Telangana and cited several flagship schemes benefiting the state.
According to Nabin, more than 30 lakh farmers in Telangana have benefited from the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, while over 33 lakh farmers have received Kisan Credit Cards to improve access to institutional credit.
He also referred to the establishment of the Turmeric Board in Nizamabad and highlighted the implementation of welfare programmes such as Ayushman Bharat, saying they reflected the Centre’s commitment to the state’s development.
Launching a sharp attack on the Congress government in Telangana, the BJP president alleged that it had failed to fulfil the promises made to the electorate.
He claimed that none of the six guarantees announced by the Congress before coming to power had been implemented in full and accused the state government of neglecting key commitments such as unemployment allowance for youth and financial assistance for women.
“The Congress government has failed to deliver on its promises. It has shown little concern for the aspirations of the people, and it is the responsibility of BJP workers to expose these failures and take the people’s voice across Telangana,” he said.
Reiterating an allegation frequently levelled by the BJP against the Congress leadership, Nabin claimed that the Telangana government had become an “ATM” for the party’s leadership in New Delhi.
He contrasted the Centre’s economic reforms, including the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and enhancement of the income tax exemption limit, with what he described as the Congress government’s collection of “RR tax.”
“The hard-earned money of the people of Telangana should not be diverted through what we call RR tax. The BJP government has worked to reduce the financial burden on citizens, while the Congress government is focused on enriching its central leadership,” he alleged.
Nabin said that bringing the BJP to power in Telangana was not merely an electoral objective but a tribute to the countless party workers who had dedicated their lives to building the organisation in the state over several decades.
He stressed that the BJP’s organisational network—from the state leadership to district, mandal, village and booth-level committees—would play a decisive role in achieving that goal.
After concluding his Telangana visit, Nabin told reporters that the BJP’s campaign for power would begin with the upcoming local body elections, which he described as the first step towards forming a BJP government in the state.
“The process of bringing the BJP to power in Telangana will start with the local body elections. We are confident that our organisation and workers will strengthen the party at the grassroots and prepare the foundation for victory in 2028,” he said.
Drawing parallels with the BJP’s electoral success in West Bengal, Nabin said the party had demonstrated its ability to defeat entrenched political forces through sustained public movements and organisational strength.
“We defeated a destructive government in West Bengal and made the lotus bloom in the land of our founding leader Syama Prasad Mukherjee. The BJP consistently stood with women and fought against the atrocities committed during the previous Trinamool government,” he claimed.
The state executive meeting was attended by several senior BJP leaders, including Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao, National General Secretary Sunil Bansal, National Vice President D.K. Aruna, state in-charge Abhay Patil, Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, and Rajya Sabha MP Dr K. Laxman, who discussed the party’s organisational strategy and preparations for the upcoming elections.
