PM Modi Shares Glimpses of 77th Republic Day Parade, Hails India’s Democratic Strength and National Pride

New Delhi, Jan 2026 : Following the grand celebrations of the 77th Republic Day at Kartavya Path on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared glimpses from the historic parade and said the magnificent spectacle reflected the strength of India’s democracy, national pride and collective unity.

India marked its 77th Republic Day with an impressive showcase of military prowess, indigenous defence capabilities and cultural diversity. A major highlight of this year’s parade was the Indian Army’s unique ‘Battle Array’ format, which offered a comprehensive visual representation of modern battlefield formations and the sequence of operations undertaken during wartime. The display underlined India’s evolving combat edge and its growing emphasis on self-reliance in defence technology.

Several vibrant cultural performances and thematic tableaus from across the country added colour and depth to the celebrations, presenting a vivid picture of India’s heritage, traditions and developmental journey. The performances captivated spectators along Kartavya Path and reinforced the message of unity in diversity.

Taking to social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi said, “India celebrated Republic Day with great enthusiasm and pride. The magnificent parade at Kartavya Path showcased the strength of our democracy, the richness of our heritage and the unity that binds our nation together.” In another post, he described the celebrations as a “powerful display of national pride”.

Highlighting the security dimension of the parade, the Prime Minister said it showcased India’s formidable security apparatus, reflecting the nation’s preparedness, technological capability and unwavering commitment to safeguarding its citizens. “The Republic Day parade offered a glimpse into the strengthening capabilities of our security forces. Our forces are truly our pride,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Republic Day celebrations began with Prime Minister Modi paying homage to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial. He laid a wreath at the memorial, leading the nation in honouring the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. During the solemn ceremony, the Inter-Services Guards — comprising one officer and 21 guards, seven from each of the three services — observed the traditional ‘Salami Shastra’, followed by ‘Shok Shastra’, as a mark of respect.

After witnessing the parade, PM Modi once again broke protocol, continuing a tradition he has followed since 2015. He walked down Kartavya Path, covering a considerable distance to greet enthusiastic attendees seated in the enclosures. The gesture was met with thunderous applause and cheers as people waved tricolours and chanted slogans of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’.

Children stood on chairs, smiling and waving eagerly to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister, while the atmosphere remained charged with patriotic fervour. PM Modi acknowledged the crowd warmly before boarding his vehicle, waving to the spectators as chants of ‘Modi-Modi’ echoed along the ceremonial boulevard.

Dressed in a distinctive red tie-and-dye traditional turban adorned with golden peacock feather motifs, the Prime Minister continued his hallmark tradition of wearing a unique headgear on Republic Day, symbolising India’s cultural richness.

He also crossed over to the other side of Kartavya Path to greet another section of the crowd, where enthusiastic citizens captured the moment on their phones, making the celebrations even more memorable.

The Prime Minister’s interactions with the public once again underscored his effort to connect directly with citizens during national celebrations, adding a personal touch to the historic Republic Day event.
