IAF Fly-Past Caps 77th Republic Day Celebrations with Dazzling Display of Air Power

New Delhi, Jan 2026: The 77th Republic Day celebrations culminated in a spectacular aerial fly-past by the Indian Air Force, delivering a thrilling finale that highlighted India’s combat readiness, technological sophistication and precision flying. As the final segment of the parade unfolded, the skies above Kartavya Path transformed into a canvas of speed, power and flawless coordination.

Frontline fighter jets, transport aircraft and helicopters roared overhead in meticulously choreographed formations, drawing loud applause from thousands of spectators lining the ceremonial boulevard. A total of 29 aircraft took part in the fly-past, including 16 fighter jets, four transport aircraft and nine helicopters, making it one of the most anticipated and visually striking moments of the Republic Day parade.

The fly-past underscored seamless joint operational coordination between the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy. One of the standout moments was the Varuna formation, which featured a Navy P-8i maritime patrol aircraft flanked by two Su-30 MKI fighters flying in a classic ‘Vic’ formation. The display symbolised the growing integration and maritime strike capability of India’s armed forces.

Another impressive formation, Arjan, showcased India’s strategic airlift strength. In this sequence, a C-130 transport aircraft led two C-295 aircraft in an echeloned Vic formation. Maintaining a precise V-shaped pattern at the same altitude, the aircraft demonstrated exceptional flying discipline, with pilots aligning themselves by referencing the leader’s horizontal stabiliser — a demanding manoeuvre that requires intense focus and coordination.

The crowd erupted in cheers as six Rafale fighter jets thundered across the sky in the Vajraang formation. This high-skill display represented air dominance and India’s enhanced strategic strike capability, reinforcing the Indian Air Force’s role as a decisive force in safeguarding national security.

The undisputed showstopper was the Vijay formation, which left spectators spellbound. A Rafale fighter streaked across the sky at an estimated speed of 900 kmph at just 300 metres above obstacle level before executing the dramatic ‘Vertical Charlie’ manoeuvre. The jet climbed sharply into a near-vertical ascent, performing multiple rapid rolls — a breathtaking demonstration of raw power, thrust and pilot expertise that drew thunderous applause.

Earlier in the day, the aerial spectacle was set in motion by the Prahar formation. A Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter carrying the Indian Army’s Operation Sindoor flag flew alongside the Army’s Rudra ALH-WSI and the Indian Air Force’s ALH Mark IV. This opening act reinforced the theme of jointness and high operational readiness across the services.

Together, the formations delivered a powerful visual statement of India’s growing air power, technological advancement and the professionalism of its pilots, bringing the nation’s 77th Republic Day celebrations to a stirring and memorable close.
