President Murmu Hosts ‘At Home’ Reception to Mark Conclusion of 77th Republic Day Celebrations

New Delhi, Jan 2026 : President Droupadi Murmu on Monday evening hosted the traditional ‘At Home’ reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, bringing the curtain down on a day filled with patriotic fervour, ceremonial grandeur, and diplomatic engagement.

The reception was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, European Council President Antonio Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, along with several Union ministers, senior officials, diplomats, and other eminent guests. The gathering reflected the spirit of unity and inclusiveness that lies at the heart of India’s Republic Day celebrations.

The ‘At Home’ reception is a time-honoured tradition observed every year on January 26 to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1950. It serves as an informal yet significant occasion where national leadership and international dignitaries come together in a relaxed setting to celebrate India’s democratic journey.

This year’s reception assumed added importance with the presence of the two senior European leaders, who earlier served as joint Chief Guests at the Republic Day parade on Kartavya Path. Their participation underlined the growing depth and strength of the India–European Union partnership, particularly in the areas of trade, security, climate action, and global cooperation. The visit also set the stage for continued dialogue during the 16th EU–India Summit scheduled for January 27.

The invitation card for the ‘At Home’ reception showcased artistic motifs inspired by the rich cultural heritage of India’s North-Eastern states, highlighting the country’s diversity and creative traditions. Guests gathered in the majestic environs of Rashtrapati Bhavan, exchanging greetings and reflecting on the significance of the day’s events.

Earlier in the day, the Republic Day parade had displayed India’s military prowess, technological advancements, cultural diversity, and commitment to self-reliance through vibrant tableaux and performances. The evening reception provided an opportunity for informal interaction and reflection following the grand spectacle.

Vice President Radhakrishnan, who had earlier extended Republic Day greetings emphasising the constitutional values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity, joined Prime Minister Modi in welcoming the guests.

The ‘At Home’ reception thus served as a fitting conclusion to Republic Day 2026, blending tradition with modern diplomacy and reaffirming India’s commitment to democratic ideals, unity, and a shared vision for the future.
