Jharkhand Government Prioritizes Welfare, Safety, and Respect for Its Citizens Working Abroad: CM Hemant Soren Engages with UK-Based Workers
London, January 2026: During his visit to the United Kingdom, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren held a detailed dialogue with Jharkhand-origin citizens working across various sectors in the UK, including domestic help, caregivers, and other service-based professions. The discussion focused on their work experiences, challenges faced abroad, and the strong cultural, emotional, and social ties they maintain with Jharkhand despite years of living overseas.
Workers shared the difficulties encountered while working in foreign countries, emphasizing the need for safety, fair treatment, and recognition of their rights. Chief Minister Soren attentively listened to their concerns and highlighted the state government’s commitment to protecting the welfare of Jharkhand citizens working abroad. He noted that the state is actively studying relevant central government laws to ensure that the rights and protections available to workers within Jharkhand are extended to those employed overseas.
During the visit, CM Soren also engaged with India’s Ambassador to the UK to discuss the welfare and safety of Jharkhand-origin workers, ensuring diplomatic support for their concerns. He emphasized that employment abroad should provide respect, security, and better opportunities, reflecting the state’s commitment to its citizens regardless of their location.
Chief Minister Soren further stressed that the contributions of Jharkhand-origin workers—including domestic staff, caregivers, and semi-skilled laborers—are crucial for enhancing the state’s global recognition and identity. He acknowledged their vital role in building Jharkhand’s reputation internationally and ensuring that their achievements are celebrated and supported.
The dialogue included participation from several UK-based community members, such as Neelu Akda, Anju Lakda, Chester Jyoti, Phulkari Ekka, Mathas Toppo, Mary Khakha, Cosmos Kujur, Tara Chatki, Saroj Toppo, Plechas Chadis Toppo, Elizabeth Kujur, Vijay Kujur, and Jaichand Kujur. Their presence underscored the diversity and unity of the Jharkhand diaspora in the UK.
CM Soren reaffirmed that the welfare, safety, and dignity of Jharkhand citizens abroad remain the highest priority for his government. He assured that Jharkhand will continue to recognize and support its overseas workforce while promoting fair and secure employment opportunities globally.
This engagement reinforces the state’s commitment to protecting its diaspora, enhancing their welfare, and strengthening Jharkhand’s presence on the international stage.
