Plantation Drive Held Under Beti Bachao Beti Padao in Lawngtlai

Lawngtlai : Today, under the Mission Shakti initiative, the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) and the District Programme Office (Women and Child Development Department) of Lawngtlai District organized a ‘Plantation Drive’ as part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padao (BBBP) 100 Days Campaign. The event took place at the Observation Home, Dinthar Lawngtlai Council Veng, and was inaugurated by Pu Zoremsiama Hmar, Additional Deputy Commissioner.

During his address, Pu Zoremsiama Hmar emphasized the importance of the Beti Bachao Beti Padao (BBBP) initiative and reviewed the various efforts made under the program. He spoke about the declining ratio of girl children across India and the prevalent discrimination against girls, which has led the government to take strong measures in this regard. He also noted the particularly challenging conditions for girls in Mizoram and praised the continuous efforts of the Women & Child Development Department to alleviate these challenges. Pu Hmar highlighted the need to educate society on the equal status of men and women, stressing that a collective effort by the government, churches, and selfless volunteers is essential for empowering and supporting girls. He urged the people of Lawngtlai to join in these efforts and work together.

During the Plantation Drive, trees were planted by several dignitaries, including Pu Zoremsiama Hmar, Additional DC; Pi Jothansangi Tlau, Chief Judicial Magistrate; Pu K. Lalromawia, District Chief Conservator of Forests (EF&CC), LADC; Pu Zonunchama Ralte, District Information and Public Relations Officer; Dr. R. Lalruatfela, Assistant Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Mizoram; and Pu Lalfakawma Varte, Superintendent of the Observation Home.

The Beti Bachao Beti Padao (BBBP) ‘Plantation Drive’ was led by Pi F. Lalengvari, District Mission Coordinator, DHEW, who expressed her gratitude to all participants during the event’s closing remarks. The theme of the Plantation Drive was ‘Promote the Importance of the Girl Child.’
