Iran Army Chief Warns US of Serious Consequences Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Tehran, Jan 2026 : Iran’s Army Chief, Major General Amir Hatami, on Saturday issued a strong warning to the United States, saying that any misstep by Washington would not only threaten American security but also put Israel and the entire West Asia region at risk. His remarks come amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington, raising fresh concerns over regional stability.

Speaking at a national event in Tehran, Hatami underlined the high level of preparedness of Iran’s armed forces. According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, he said that the country’s military remains on full alert and is closely monitoring developments across the region. “Today, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran are in complete defensive and military readiness. We are watching the enemy’s movements carefully. Our finger is on the trigger,” Hatami said.

The Iranian Army Chief cautioned that any hostile action against Iran would have wide-ranging consequences. He stated that if the “enemy” commits a mistake, it would inevitably endanger its own security as well as that of Israel and the wider West Asian region. Hatami welcomed recent assurances from neighboring countries that they would not allow their territories or airspace to be used for military action against Iran. He said these nations understand that instability directed at Iran would quickly spread across the region, affecting everyone.

Hatami also stressed that Iran is not opposed to resolving disputes, provided it is treated with respect. “If the other side truly wants to resolve the issue, it must approach the Iranian nation with dignity and respect,” he said, adding that pressure and threats would not force Iran into submission.

The warning comes against the backdrop of renewed tensions following statements by US President Donald Trump, who recently announced that a large naval force led by the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln is moving toward Iran. Trump has also warned that time is running out for Tehran to reach an agreement with Washington, further heightening tensions.

Iranian officials have responded firmly to these statements. Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Abbas Araghchi said in Istanbul on Friday that Iran remains open to negotiations with the United States but will not be intimidated by threats or military pressure.

Meanwhile, regional and international actors are urging restraint. Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Saturday appealed to both Iran and the United States to resume dialogue and work towards a peaceful and mutually acceptable solution to the nuclear issue. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said Shoukry held separate phone conversations with officials from Iran, Qatar, Turkey, and Oman, as well as with US special envoy Steve Witkoff, emphasizing the need for diplomacy to prevent further escalation.

As tensions continue to rise, calls for dialogue and de-escalation are growing, with regional stability hanging in the balance.
