1st North-East Ju-Jitsu Championship – Mizoram Wins 6 Gold and 3 Bronze Medals
Aizawl, February 2026 : From 31st January to 2nd February, the 1st North-East Ju-Jitsu Championship was held in Guwahati, Assam. The Ju-Jitsu Association of Mizoram (JAM) sent 5 athletes and 1 coach to represent Mizoram, and they won 6 Gold medals and 3 Bronze medals.
Ju-Jitsu includes three main fighting styles – Ne-Waza (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu), Contact Fighting (MMA Rules), and Fighting System (Semi-Contact striking and Grappling). The Mizoram athletes’ team entry fees, training, and equipment were fully supported by JAM, with additional support from SPES Martial Arts Academy.
Ju-Jitsu is a rapidly growing martial art worldwide, suitable for both youth and adults. It is highly effective for self-defense and MMA training. Due to its practical applications, police forces and school students also receive training in Ju-Jitsu. Athletes from Mizoram have regularly participated in national and regional tournaments, and the sport is recognized by the Ministry of Sports. It is also recognized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and medals are awarded in the Asian Games.
Mizoram has produced one of India’s 10 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt holders, and the sport has now been affiliated under the Mizoram State Sports Council (MSSC).
