High-Level Review on Conservation of World Heritage Pink City Jaipur

Jaipur, Feb 2026 : Emphasising that Jaipur’s Pink City being accorded UNESCO World Heritage City status is a major achievement for the state, the Chief Secretary directed all concerned officials to ensure that all conservation and restoration works are carried out strictly in accordance with UNESCO guidelines. He stated that the state government is working with full seriousness and commitment to fulfil all responsibilities and mandates associated with UNESCO recognition.

A high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Shri V. Srinivas was held at the Secretariat on Wednesday to assess the progress of works required under the UNESCO World Heritage City status. During the meeting, emphasis was laid on adopting a “whole-of-government approach,” ensuring inter-departmental coordination, time-bound implementation, and shared responsibility among all agencies involved.

The Chief Secretary instructed a joint team of the Tourism Department, Local Self Government Department, and Urban Development Department to conduct an inspection of the Pink City and finalise a comprehensive action plan. He directed that cleanliness be maintained in the walled city area and that banners, advertisements, and temporary encroachments affecting the city’s aesthetics be removed. Special instructions were issued to ensure regular monitoring of heritage gates and major routes, with strict action to remove illegal elements. District- and zone-level officers were also directed to enforce rules rigorously to preserve the dignity and heritage character of the area.

Reviewing the progress of the Special Area Heritage Plan being prepared for Walled City Jaipur, the Chief Secretary stressed strict adherence to prescribed timelines by all departments. It was informed that work is underway on various components, including the base map, socio-economic profile, livelihoods, tourism, transport and mobility, disaster management, environment and landscape, and the legislative and management framework.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Public Works Department) and Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism) Shri Praveen Gupta, Principal Secretary (Urban Development and Housing) Dr. Debashish Prusti, Secretary (Local Self Government) Shri Ravi Jain, along with senior officials from the Tourism Department, Local Self Government Department, Urban Development Department, Jaipur Municipal Corporation, and other concerned departments.
