Netanyahu to Visit Washington for Talks with Trump on Iran-US Negotiations

Jerusalem, Feb 2026 : Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to travel to Washington on Wednesday for high-level discussions with US President Donald Trump, with a key focus on the ongoing Iran-US negotiations, according to a statement issued by Netanyahu’s office.

The statement said the two leaders will hold detailed talks on “the negotiations with Iran,” with Netanyahu maintaining that any future agreement must go beyond nuclear issues. He believes the talks should include firm restrictions on Iran’s ballistic missile programme and a complete end to Tehran’s support for what Israel describes as the “Iranian axis” across the Middle East.

The announcement comes in the wake of indirect talks between Iranian and American delegations held in Oman on Friday. US President Trump described the discussions as “very good talks,” stating that Iran appeared eager to reach an agreement. He also indicated that further rounds of talks are expected early next week.

These negotiations mark the first formal engagement between the United States and Iran since Israel carried out military strikes on Iran in June last year. Those strikes triggered a 12-day conflict that significantly escalated regional tensions, during which the United States bombed key Iranian nuclear facilities, according to reports.

Netanyahu and Trump last met in December, and the upcoming meeting is expected to reaffirm close coordination between Israel and the US on Iran-related security concerns. While Israel has not been directly involved in the Oman talks, Netanyahu has consistently voiced scepticism about diplomacy with Tehran unless it addresses Israel’s core security demands.

There was no immediate comment from the White House regarding the planned meeting.

Meanwhile, the Oman talks appeared to underline deep differences over how negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme should proceed. Although Trump struck an optimistic tone, the discussions reportedly returned both sides to fundamental disagreements.

Trump has repeatedly warned that military force remains an option if Iran fails to reach a deal. In recent weeks, the US has increased its military presence in the region, including the deployment of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and additional naval assets, amid heightened tensions and unrest within Iran.
