Denmark, Faroe Islands And Greenland Participate In Joint Meetings Within The Framework Of The NATO Defence Ministerial Meeting.
Brussels; February 2026: Danish Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Culture of the Faroe Islands Sirið Stenberg and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Research of Greenland Vivian Motzfeldt are today on 12th February, are participating in a series of joint meetings with allies in Brussels within the framework of the NATO Defence Ministerial Meeting. At the meetings, the three ministers will discuss how the Kingdom of Denmark, in cooperation with allies, can strengthen security in the Arctic and the North Atlantic. Among other things, via NATO’s Arctic Sentry.
“In light of the security situation, it is very good news for us that NATO will now play a crucial role in the Arctic and the North Atlantic with Arctic Sentry. In close dialogue with Greenland and the Faroe Islands, we have made two Arctic packages with money for, among other things, new Arctic ships, maritime patrol aircraft and strengthened satellite capacity. On top of that, we have entered into an agreement to acquire additional F-35 fighter jets that can be used to solve tasks in the Arctic and the North Atlantic. So, we are stepping up our responsibility, and it will only get even better under the auspices of NATO’s efforts,” says Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen.
“Security in the Arctic must be strengthened, and it is crucial that Greenland actively contributes to setting the direction for NATO’s role in the region. I am therefore pleased to be back in Brussels for discussions on how the NATO alliance can cooperate to increase its presence in the Arctic and the North Atlantic for the benefit of common transatlantic security”, says Naalakkersuisoq for foreign affairs and research Vivian Motzfeldt.
The three ministers will participate, among other things, in the Northern Defence Dialogue (NDD) in the circle of Arctic allies (the so-called A7 circle consisting of the Kingdom of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Canada and the United States), to discuss strengthened A7 cooperation. In addition, the three ministers will meet with NATO’s Chief of Defence, SACEUR, where they will discuss NATO’s military presence in the Arctic and the North Atlantic.
The three ministers will also participate in a meeting in the circle of Nordic defence ministers with security in the Arctic and the North Atlantic as the agenda. The meeting follows up on the most recent meeting between the Nordic countries, which was held at NATO headquarters on 19th January 2026.
In addition, Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen will also participate in the NATO Defence Ministers’ Meeting, as well as a meeting in the UDCG circle (Ukraine Defence Contact Group), before he heads to Munich on Friday, where he will participate in the Munich Security Conference.
