Iran Warns of ‘Swift and Decisive’ Response to Any US Interference in Strait of Hormuz
Tehran, July 2026 : Iran on Thursday issued a strong warning to the United States, declaring that any attempt to interfere in the Strait of Hormuz would trigger a “swift and decisive” response from the Iranian armed forces, amid renewed tensions over security in one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes.
In a statement released by Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, the country’s main military command, Tehran asserted that the Strait of Hormuz falls under Iran’s sovereign authority and rejected any notion of external control over the waterway.
The headquarters said the Strait of Hormuz is not an “aggressive US playground” but a region under Iran’s “undisputed sovereignty,” stressing that safeguarding its security and stability remains a non-negotiable red line for the Iranian military.
The statement warned that all oil tankers and commercial vessels transiting the Strait must follow the navigation routes and maritime protocols prescribed by Iranian authorities. It cautioned that any vessel failing to comply with these regulations or attempting to use unauthorized routes would face an “immediate and decisive” military response, potentially putting its own safety at risk.
Iran further stated that it considers any attempt by the United States to interfere in the security affairs of the Strait or disrupt maritime operations as a direct threat to its national security. Such actions, it said, would be met with a rapid and forceful response from Iranian armed forces.
The military headquarters also criticized the continued deployment of US manned and unmanned military aircraft over the strategic waterway, arguing that their presence contributes to regional instability rather than security.
It warned that Iran would not hesitate to take all necessary measures to “crush any aggression” by US forces or their allies in order to defend its sovereignty and territorial interests in the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest warning came as diplomatic tensions also escalated over recent regional security discussions led by the United States.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, reinforced Tehran’s position in a post on social media platform X, stating that the Strait of Hormuz operates under Iran’s authority rather than the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
His remarks followed a regional security dialogue hosted by CENTCOM in Bahrain on Wednesday, where military officials from 12 countries discussed strengthening defence cooperation, enhancing regional security, and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of global commerce through the Strait of Hormuz.
Responding to the meeting, Gharibabadi argued that such gatherings could not establish a legitimate security framework for the Gulf region. He maintained that lasting security in West Asia would only be achieved when the United States ends its regional interventions, withdraws its military presence, respects the sovereignty of regional nations, and acknowledges evolving geopolitical realities.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, with a significant share of global oil exports passing through the narrow waterway, making any escalation in the region a matter of international concern.
