Citizens Urged to Participate in Shiv Jayanti Celebrations in Large Numbers – District Collector Anchal Goyal
Cultural programmes to be held in Mumbai on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti
Mumbai, Feb 2026 : On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a series of cultural programmes, theatrical performances, processions and heritage-focused activities will be organised across Mumbai city on February 18 and 19, 2026. Through these events, the valour, bravery and welfare-oriented governance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will be commemorated and celebrated.
Mumbai City District Collector Anchal Goyal has appealed to citizens of Mumbai to participate in large numbers in the various cultural programmes being organised to mark the occasion of Shiv Jayanti.
A planning meeting regarding the organisation of the Shiv Jayanti procession was held at the Planning Bhavan in the Mumbai City District Collectorate under the chairpersonship of District Collector Anchal Goyal. Additional District Collector Bappasaheb Thorat, Resident Deputy Collector Dr. Shivananda Langdapure and other concerned officials were present at the meeting.
Addressing the gathering, District Collector Anchal Goyal said that immediate coordination should be established with educational institutions to ensure maximum participation of students in the procession. She directed that students from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and the National Service Scheme (NSS) should also be actively involved. Efforts should be made to encourage participation from government officials, women and youth in large numbers. She further instructed the police department to prepare a comprehensive traffic management plan and ensure its effective implementation during the events.
Special Play at Ravindra Natya Mandir
On February 18, 2026, at 10.30 am, a special theatrical performance titled ‘Lok Kalyan Raja Arthaat Shivdarshan’ will be staged at Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi. The play will present a vivid portrayal of the glorious history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, highlighting his courage, heroism and people-centric administration.
The programme will be inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of Mumbai City, Eknath Shinde.
Several dignitaries are expected to be present on the occasion, including Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Adv. Rahul Narvekar; Minister for Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Mangal Prabhat Lodha; Minister for Cultural Affairs Adv. Ashish Shelar; Member of Parliament Anil Desai; MLA Mahesh Sawant; Mayor of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Ritu Tawde; Chief Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal; and Secretary, Department of Cultural Affairs, Dr. Kiran Kulkarni.
Cultural Programmes on February 19
On February 19, 2026, at 7.00 am, floral tributes will be offered to the portrait of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the Mumbai City District Collectorate. Following this, a grand procession will be taken out from the Asiatic Society of Mumbai Town Hall (Central Library), Shahid Bhagat Singh Road, Fort, up to the Gateway of India.
At the Gateway of India, various experimental art forms and cultural performances based on the life and legacy of Shivaji Maharaj will be presented. The programme is being jointly organised by the Maharashtra State Department of Cultural Affairs, the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, and the Mumbai City District Collectorate.
Through these celebrations, citizens will get an opportunity to reconnect with the ideals, leadership and enduring legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, while collectively honouring one of India’s greatest historical figures.
