K. Kavitha to Launch New Political Party in May, Targets Key Telangana Constituencies
Hyderabad, Feb 2026 : Telangana Jagruthi President K. Kavitha on Thursday announced that she will float a new political party in May this year, signaling a major realignment in Telangana’s political landscape. Speaking to media persons in Hyderabad, Kavitha said the formal announcement would be made after identifying an auspicious “muhuratam” in the first week of May.
Kavitha revealed that the name of the new party will обязательно include the word “Telangana,” underlining its regional focus and ideological commitment to the state’s identity. Expressing confidence in her political roadmap, she said the proposed outfit would soon emerge as the principal opposition force in Telangana.
The Telangana Jagruthi leader also disclosed her plans to contest the next Assembly elections, stating that she is considering either Siddipet or Bodhan as her constituency. Among the two, Siddipet remains her first preference. The constituency carries deep political significance, as it was represented for nearly two decades by her father, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, popularly known as KCR, until 2004. Since then, the seat has been held by his nephew T. Harish Rao.
Kavitha is the daughter of KCR, the president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and former Chief Minister of Telangana. She quit the party last year after being suspended on charges of anti-party activities. The disciplinary action followed her sharp criticism of her cousins, Harish Rao and Santosh Rao, whom she accused of being responsible for corruption allegations levelled against KCR.
Taking aim at the present political establishment, Kavitha commented on Harish Rao’s recent statement that the Congress leadership’s review of the Telangana government’s performance in Delhi was an insult to the state’s pride. Rejecting this view, she said there was little difference between the previous BRS government and the current Congress administration.
“In the earlier government, the cabinet used to go to Erravelli. Now it goes to Delhi. There is no major difference between the two,” Kavitha remarked, drawing a comparison between KCR’s farmhouse at Erravelli and the Congress leadership’s central command.
She also launched a direct attack on her brother and BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao, alleging that individuals who betrayed the Telangana movement were now seated beside him in positions of influence.
On policy issues, Kavitha demanded the immediate merger of the Road Transport Corporation (RTC) with the state government. She called for the unconditional reinstatement of all RTC employees who were dismissed for various reasons, asserting that their livelihoods must be protected.
Accusing the government of paving the way for RTC privatisation, Kavitha insisted that the corporation should retain ownership of all electric buses being procured. She argued that public transport must remain firmly in the public sector to safeguard workers’ rights and ensure affordable mobility for the people of Telangana.
With the announcement of a new party and strong positions on governance and public welfare, Kavitha has set the stage for an intense political contest in the months ahead.
