YEIDA region emerging as flag bearer in ‘Chip Revolution’

HCL and Foxconn Technology Group to invest over ₹3,700 crore to set up the unit, advanced OSAT facility expected to become operational by 2028

Plant will manufacture display driver chips for smartphones, laptops, automobile systems and industrial electronics

With a processing capacity of 20,000 wafers per month, facility will meet the growing domestic demand for semiconductor components

Investment will generate over 3,500 direct and indirect jobs, project estimated to contribute nearly ₹45,000 crore annually to GDP

Lucknow/Jewar: February 2026 : Jewar in Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority region is emerging as a symbol of the country’s semiconductor ambitions. The foundation stone laying of the DDIC OSAT unit of India Chip Private Limited is not just the beginning of an industrial project but is being seen as a decisive step towards India’s technological self-reliance.

India Chip Private Limited is a 60:40 joint venture between HCL Technologies and Foxconn Technology Group. The company is setting up a state-of-the-art OSAT facility with an investment of around ₹3,700 crore, which is expected to become operational by 2028. The plant will manufacture display driver chips used in smartphones, laptops, automobile systems and industrial electronics. With a processing capacity of 20,000 wafers per month, the facility will play an important role in meeting India’s growing domestic demand for semiconductor components.

This investment is expected to generate more than 3,500 direct and indirect jobs, help develop the local supply chain and attract global partners linked to the semiconductor value chain. The partnership between HCL and Foxconn is expected to strengthen India’s position in the global semiconductor supply chain through high-quality manufacturing based on global standards.

This will be the country’s first Display Driver Integrated Circuit (DDIC) OSAT facility. Until now, India has had limited production capacity for DDIC chips used in mobile phones, televisions, laptops and automobile displays. With the establishment of this unit, India’s dependence on imports will reduce and domestic manufacturing will get a boost. Experts believe this step will strengthen India’s role in the global supply chain.

Yamuna Expressway region is already known for logistics and aerospace investments. With the entry of the semiconductor industry, the region is now moving towards becoming a high-tech manufacturing cluster. This mega unit, set up through joint investment by HCL Group and Foxconn Technology Group, is expected to become a center of technological excellence. The project is estimated to contribute nearly ₹45,000 crore annually to GDP.

The unit is expected to create around 3,500 direct and indirect jobs, providing opportunities for local youth in advanced technology sectors. Under the project, centers of excellence, research laboratories and simulation labs will be established to promote innovation in chip design and testing. Special training programs will also be conducted in collaboration with local universities and technical institutions, strengthening a skill-based industrial ecosystem in the state.

This project is a strong example of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ visions being implemented on the ground. Self-reliance in the semiconductor sector is important not only economically but also from a strategic point of view. This initiative in the YEIDA region can prove to be a milestone in establishing Uttar Pradesh as a leading semiconductor destination in the country. As India moves towards the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, this foundation stone laying has emerged as a symbol of technological confidence and industrial strength.
