Maharashtra Tops the Nation in ‘Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyan’; Minister Aditi Tatkare Congratulates Anganwadi Workers

Mumbai, February 2026 : Maharashtra has achieved a significant national milestone under the ‘Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyan’, a campaign aimed at building malnutrition-free, healthy, and empowered villages, informed Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare.

The Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyan is an initiative-driven mission designed to strengthen nutrition planning, implementation, and public awareness at the gram panchayat level. Under this campaign, Maharashtra secured first place nationwide, with 192 gram panchayats from the state ranking among the top 1,000 gram panchayats across the country.

Minister Tatkare stated that this remarkable achievement reflects the state’s concerted and coordinated efforts under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar. She described the accomplishment as a matter of immense pride and inspiration for Maharashtra, showcasing the impact of sustained, whole-of-government action. The minister also expressed that this success is dedicated to the memory of former Deputy Chief Minister Late Ajit Pawar.

Congratulating Anganwadi workers, Minister Tatkare highlighted the dedication and hard work of Anganwadi sevikas and helpers under the Integrated Child Development Services, along with the exemplary contribution of officers and staff of the Women and Child Development Department.

The core objectives of the Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyan include reducing malnutrition among children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. The campaign focuses on increasing awareness around balanced nutrition, hygiene, healthcare, and immunisation. Gram panchayats prepare and effectively implement nutrition action plans as part of the initiative.

The campaign also emphasises inter-departmental convergence—bringing together Health, Women and Child Development, Education, Water Supply, and Sanitation departments—while enhancing community participation through NGOs, women’s self-help groups, youth organisations, and citizens. Key activities include regular growth monitoring, nutrition tracking and data management through Anganwadi centres, ASHA workers and health staff, promotion of kitchen gardens (nutrition gardens), organisation of special nutrition weeks, awareness drives, and competitions.

The Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyan is aligned with the Central Government’s National Nutrition Mission, reinforcing Maharashtra’s commitment to building healthier, well-nourished, and resilient communities across the state.
