Vijay’s TVK Set to Announce Candidates for All 234 Tamil Nadu Assembly Seats

Chennai, March 2026 : The political party founded by actor-turned-politician Vijay, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is gearing up to release its list of candidates for all 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu within the next two weeks, according to party sources.

The development comes as political parties across the state intensify their preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections. Major parties are currently engaged in alliance negotiations, seat-sharing arrangements and the selection of candidates. However, TVK has chosen a different path and is not part of any electoral alliance at this stage.

Party insiders indicate that TVK is preparing to contest the elections independently, aiming to position itself as a fresh alternative in the state’s political landscape. By announcing candidates for every constituency, the party hopes to project itself as a serious and organised contender in the electoral battle.

Sources within the party revealed that Vijay is expected to begin a structured consultation process soon to finalise the candidates. The process will reportedly include personal interviews and detailed discussions with aspirants who are seeking to contest on the party’s ticket.

The screening mechanism is likely to involve several stages of evaluation to ensure that the selected candidates possess strong grassroots support, organisational strength and public credibility. Party leaders believe that careful candidate selection will be crucial in building voter confidence in a relatively new political formation.

According to party insiders, the preliminary shortlisting process is already underway. For each Assembly constituency, a panel of four potential candidates has reportedly been identified. These individuals will undergo further scrutiny before the final candidate is selected.

The final decision will be based on several factors, including the candidate’s local influence, political experience, ability to mobilise supporters and alignment with the party’s broader electoral strategy.

Alongside candidate selection, Vijay has been actively working to strengthen the party’s organisational network across the state. He has been holding executive committee meetings in various districts to review local political conditions and assess the preparedness of party cadres ahead of the election campaign.

These meetings have focused on building a strong grassroots structure, energising party workers and ensuring that the organisational framework is ready before the candidate list is formally announced.

In addition to internal strategy sessions, the leadership of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam is planning a series of large-scale public conferences and rallies in the coming weeks. These events are expected to play a crucial role in introducing the party’s candidates to voters and presenting its political agenda.

The gatherings will also provide Vijay with an opportunity to outline the party’s vision for governance, development and social welfare in Tamil Nadu. Party leaders believe these programmes will help build momentum and strengthen public engagement ahead of the election campaign.

Political observers say that announcing candidates early for all 234 constituencies could give TVK a strategic advantage. It would allow its nominees sufficient time to connect with voters, organise campaign activities and build local support well before polling begins.

The coming weeks are therefore expected to be crucial for Vijay and his party. With rising public curiosity around his political debut, the candidate announcement could mark a significant step in TVK’s effort to transform popular support into electoral success in Tamil Nadu’s competitive political arena.
