Education Key to Uplift the Poor, Says Telangana CM Revanth Reddy; Government Initiates Major Reforms
Hyderabad, March 2026: A. Revanth Reddy on Friday said that his government is introducing significant reforms in the education sector, stressing that quality education is the most powerful tool to uplift communities living below the poverty line.
Addressing a programme organised by the Madiga Employees Coordination Committee to express gratitude to the state government for granting legal backing to the categorisation of Scheduled Castes, the Chief Minister highlighted the transformative power of education in building a more equitable society. He emphasised that providing better education opportunities would enable disadvantaged communities to achieve social and economic progress.
The Chief Minister noted that Telangana became the first state in the country to implement Scheduled Caste categorisation following directions from the Supreme Court of India. However, he clarified that categorisation alone cannot solve every challenge faced by marginalised communities. According to him, issues such as job promotions, access to higher education, land disputes and protection of assigned and ceiling lands require continuous and sustained efforts by the government.
Highlighting the importance of the government workforce in implementing welfare measures, Revanth Reddy described government employees as the “eyes, ears and brand ambassadors” of the administration. He referred to the government’s flagship outreach programme, Praja Palana – Pragathi Pranalika, which has been running for 99 days and aims to deliver welfare and development programmes effectively to the people.
He urged government employees to work diligently to ensure that ration cards reach every eligible poor household. The Chief Minister also stressed the need for efficient delivery of welfare schemes such as the Indiramma Housing Scheme, distribution of fine rice to economically weaker families, and free electricity supply to eligible beneficiaries.
Revanth Reddy pointed out the financial responsibilities of the state government, noting that nearly 1,000 government employees retire every month. As a result, the government has to disburse close to Rs 1,000 crore every month towards retirement benefits. He emphasised that maintaining a strong and transparent financial system is essential for the smooth functioning of the administration.
The Chief Minister also called upon government employees to help strengthen the financial discipline of the state. By preventing irregularities and protecting public resources, he said, more funds could be redirected towards welfare programmes that directly benefit the people.
Referring to land-related challenges, he noted that in earlier times large tracts of land were concentrated in the hands of jagirdars and zamindars. Today, however, the government is working to address issues related to assigned lands despite the limited availability of land for redistribution.
Criticising the welfare approach of the previous government, Revanth Reddy said earlier administrations focused on distributing buffaloes, sheep and fish. While such schemes provided short-term support, he said true empowerment lies in enabling people to pursue education and rise to positions of leadership in society as collectors, doctors, engineers and lawyers.
He urged members of the community to actively participate in the reconstruction and development of Telangana. Reiterating his commitment, the Chief Minister said he would extend all possible support within his capacity and continue to serve the people with the same dedication that marked the movement for the formation of Telangana.
Responding to the various political labels used by different communities to describe him, Revanth Reddy said he has no objection to being called “Revanth Madiga,” “Revanth Yadav,” “Revanth Mudiraj,” “Sardar Revanth,” or even “Revanthuddin.”
“I belong to everyone,” he said, adding that the opportunity to serve as Chief Minister is a responsibility to uplift people and ensure inclusive development across Telangana.
