Vijay Entered Politics to Become Tamil Nadu CM, Not Deputy CM: Sengottaiyan

Chennai, March 2026: Actor-turned-politician Vijay entered politics with the clear goal of becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and serving the people, and therefore there is no possibility of him accepting the post of Deputy Chief Minister, senior leader K. A. Sengottaiyan said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters at Coimbatore International Airport, Sengottaiyan dismissed speculation that Vijay might settle for a secondary role in government if his party aligns with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

According to Sengottaiyan, Vijay stepped into public life after leaving behind his successful film career with a larger objective — to lead the state and bring about meaningful change in governance. He stressed that someone who enters politics with the ambition of serving as Chief Minister would not accept a subordinate role in the government.

“Vijay entered politics leaving everything behind with the aim of serving the people and functioning as Chief Minister. When someone comes into politics with such a clear objective, there is naturally no question of accepting a Deputy Chief Minister post,” Sengottaiyan said.

His remarks come at a time when political discussions are intensifying in the state ahead of the next Assembly elections. Vijay’s newly formed party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has quickly emerged as a notable new force in the political landscape of Tamil Nadu.

In recent weeks, speculation had been circulating in political circles that Vijay could be offered the Deputy Chief Minister’s post as part of a broader alliance arrangement, particularly if the TVK decides to join hands with the NDA. However, Sengottaiyan firmly rejected such possibilities and reiterated that Vijay’s political ambitions are much larger.

He pointed out that the massive crowds attending Vijay’s public appearances indicate that many people in Tamil Nadu are looking for a fresh political alternative.

“Wherever Vijay goes, huge crowds gather. This clearly shows that the people of Tamil Nadu want a change,” Sengottaiyan said, highlighting the growing popularity of the actor-turned-politician among the public.

Sengottaiyan also criticised the current law and order situation in the state and alleged that it has deteriorated under the present government led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). He claimed that many citizens, particularly women, feel increasingly insecure and that dissatisfaction with the existing administration is rising across the state.

“The law and order situation is not satisfactory. Women are not safe, and people are living in fear,” he said, adding that public sentiment appears to be shifting against the ruling party.

Expressing confidence about Vijay’s political prospects, Sengottaiyan said the emergence of TVK could significantly reshape the electoral dynamics in Tamil Nadu. He noted that the party is preparing to contest vigorously in the upcoming Assembly elections.

According to him, the TVK plans to field strong and capable candidates in all 234 Assembly constituencies across the state. Sengottaiyan also remarked that he had rarely seen such enthusiastic public support for a leader even before elections were formally announced, suggesting that Vijay’s entry into politics could have a major impact on the state’s political landscape in the coming months.
