Telangana Budget 2026–27 to Be Presented on March 20; Assembly to Debate from March 23

Hyderabad, March 2026: The Budget for the financial year 2026–27 of Telangana will be presented in the Telangana Legislative Assembly on March 20, according to the schedule finalised during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC).

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka will present the Budget in the Assembly, while Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu will table it in the Telangana Legislative Council on the same day.

The decision regarding the schedule of the budget session was taken during a BAC meeting chaired by Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. As per the plan, the detailed discussion on the Budget will take place between March 23 and March 26.

The budget session of the state legislature commenced on Monday with an address by Shiv Pratap Shukla to a joint sitting of both houses of the legislature. The Governor’s address outlined the priorities and policies of the state government for the coming year.

Following the address, members of the Assembly will hold discussions on the motion of thanks to the Governor on March 17 and March 18. This debate traditionally allows legislators to review and comment on the government’s agenda as presented in the Governor’s speech.

The Assembly will remain closed on March 19 on account of Ugadi. There will also be no sittings on March 21 and March 22, owing to Eid al-Fitr and Sunday, respectively.

The ruling Indian National Congress government is planning to conduct the budget session until March 31. However, several opposition parties have suggested that the Assembly proceedings should continue on Sundays as well to allow more time for discussions on key public issues.

Opposition leaders argued that both the Assembly and the Council should function on all days except for major festivals such as Ugadi, Eid-ul-Fitr, and Rama Navami.

Apart from Bhatti Vikramarka and Sridhar Babu, the BAC meeting was also attended by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar.

The main opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) was represented by its deputy leader T. Harish Rao and MLA K. P. Vivekanand Goud.

From the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), floor leader A. Maheshwar Reddy participated in the meeting. Representatives from other parties, including All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MLA Kausar Mohiuddin and Communist Party of India MLA K. Sambasiva Rao, were also present.

During the meeting, BJP leader Maheshwar Reddy demanded that the budget session should run for at least 30 days, alleging that the government was shortening the duration of the session to avoid detailed discussions on public concerns and governance issues.
