Gudi Padwa Symbolises Tradition, Auspiciousness and Renewal: Chief Minister Dr. Yadav

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that Gudi Padwa, a symbol of our cultural traditions, auspiciousness and renewed consciousness, inspires us to make new resolutions, adopt meaningful goals in life and move towards prosperity. He said that the festival connects us with our cultural roots and conveys the message of unity, harmony and progress. It provides an opportunity to move forward in life with renewed energy and positivity. He noted that Chaitra Pratipada, marking the beginning of the New Year, symbolises nature’s greenery and new life. It is a transitional phase between two seasons when nature assumes a new form. This date also holds historical significance, as Samrat Vikramaditya initiated the Vikram Samvat on this day.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav was addressing an event organised at the Chief Minister’s residence to mark the beginning of the New Year festival of Gudi Padwa, organised by the collective Marathi community.

Traditional Welcome and Felicitation

The Chief Minister was accorded a traditional welcome with dhol-tasha. He was felicitated with a Peshwai turban, a ceremonial stole, and a replica statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Marathi-speaking groups from across the state—including Maharashtra Mandal, New Delhi, and delegations from Indore, Jabalpur, Bhopal, Sagar, Damoh, Chhatarpur, Bina, Dewas, and Ujjain—presented Gudi to the Chief Minister.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister released the Marathi Sahitya Akademi’s magazine Atharvanad and honoured representatives of institutions that have been actively contributing to Marathi art, literature, and culture for over a century.

Festival of Enthusiasm and Joy

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the flag of Sanatan culture has remained our enduring identity across all ages. Despite facing numerous invasions, the essence of our civilisation has endured. The entire world acknowledges the importance of Indian culture and traditions. History is replete with examples of safeguarding national pride and honour under the saffron flag and the tricolour. He described Gudi Padwa and the New Year as festivals of enthusiasm, joy, and celebration, which is why the state government has declared a holiday on this occasion. On this day, marking the beginning of Chaitra Navratri, ministers will participate in celebrations across their respective districts, beginning with offering salutations to the Sun.

Legacy of Samrat Vikramaditya and Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that during the era of Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, temples of Sanatan culture flourished with grandeur. Samrat Vikramaditya established the significance of Gudi Padwa and remains an exemplary symbol of justice, generosity, and good governance. He stated that in the present era, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is carrying forward this legacy. Courage stems from fearlessness, and fearlessness comes from eliminating fear within the mind. Under the capable leadership of the Prime Minister, India’s values and strength have gained global recognition.

International Award in the Name of Samrat Vikramaditya

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav announced that the state government has instituted an international award in the name of Samrat Vikramaditya with an amount of ₹1.01 crore, making it one of the country’s most prestigious honours.

Nominations for the award will be invited from Gudi Padwa onwards. The award will recognise outstanding contributions in areas such as promotion of Indian culture, social innovation, Indian philosophy, religion and traditions, creative work, and public welfare. The state government continues to promote the values of justice, generosity, good governance, human welfare, and harmony upheld by Samrat Vikramaditya. The event was also addressed by Shri Santosh Godbole, Director of the Marathi Sahitya Akademi and Editor-in-Chief of Atharvanad.
