Iran Alleges Massive Civilian Damage as Conflict with US and Israel Intensifies
Tehran, March 2026 : Iran has accused the United States and Israel of carrying out widespread attacks on civilian infrastructure, with the head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, Pirhossein Kolivand, claiming that more than 80,000 civilian locations have been targeted since the start of hostilities.
Addressing foreign media, Kolivand alleged serious violations of international humanitarian law, stating that over 20,000 of the targeted sites were in Tehran, while more than 60,000 were located across other parts of the country. He said commercial establishments were among the worst affected, with nearly 18,790 units reportedly damaged or destroyed.
The impact on essential services has also been severe. According to Kolivand, at least 266 medical facilities and 498 schools have been hit in the strikes, raising concerns over the humanitarian fallout of the conflict. He further stated that 12 members of Iran’s medical staff have been killed, while more than 90 others have been injured.
Kolivand added that hundreds of civilians, including children and 231 women, have lost their lives since the conflict began. Separate media reports, however, suggest that the total death toll in Iran may have crossed 1,500, indicating a much graver situation on the ground.
Amid these developments, Iran’s military also claimed fresh retaliatory action. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that it had struck an Israeli F-16 fighter jet in Iranian airspace. Additionally, Iranian state media reported an attack targeting fuel storage facilities for military aircraft at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv.
Tensions escalated further as Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, warned of possible strikes on the UAE’s Ras Al-Khaimah if attacks on Iranian territory were launched from there. He reiterated that Iran would respond directly to the source of any aggression against its sovereignty.
The current conflict traces back to February 28, when joint strikes by the United States and Israel targeted Tehran and other Iranian cities, reportedly killing former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with senior commanders and civilians. In response, Iran launched waves of missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory and US assets across the Middle East.
With both sides continuing to exchange strikes and strong warnings, the conflict shows no signs of easing, raising fears of a broader regional escalation and deepening humanitarian crisis.
