G7 Condemns Iran’s Regional Attacks, Backs Allies and Calls for Immediate De-escalation

Washington, March 2026 : The Group of Seven nations have issued a strong condemnation of Iran’s recent attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure across multiple countries in the Middle East, expressing firm solidarity with affected regional partners and warning of serious implications for global security.

In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of G7 member countries—Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States—along with the European Union’s High Representative, denounced what they described as “unjustifiable attacks” carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran and its proxies. The statement emphasized that such actions have escalated tensions in an already volatile region.

The grouping condemned in the “strongest terms” Iran’s strikes targeting civilian populations and key infrastructure, including energy facilities, in countries such as Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Iraq. The ministers noted that these actions violate international norms and undermine regional stability.

Highlighting the broader implications, the G7 warned that Iran’s military activities pose a threat not only to the countries directly affected but also to global peace and security. The group called for an “immediate and unconditional cessation” of all such attacks, urging Tehran to halt its aggressive posture and engage in de-escalation.

The statement also underlined the strategic importance of safeguarding global energy supplies and maritime routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, which is a crucial artery for international oil shipments. The G7 reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring freedom of navigation and the stability of global supply chains, noting that member states are prepared to take necessary steps, including coordinated energy stockpile releases, to mitigate disruptions.

Reiterating long-standing concerns over Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the G7 asserted that Iran “must never obtain” nuclear weapons. It also called on Tehran to halt its ballistic missile programme and end what it described as destabilising activities across the region and beyond. The statement further urged Iran to cease violence and repression within its own borders.

At the same time, the grouping reaffirmed the right of nations targeted by Iran or its proxies to defend their sovereignty and protect their citizens. It expressed unwavering support for the security, territorial integrity, and independence of these countries.

The G7 also strongly condemned recent attacks in Iraq, particularly those targeting diplomatic missions, energy infrastructure, and forces associated with the US and the international coalition combating ISIS. It described these actions as brazen and destabilising, adding to concerns about the widening scope of the conflict.

As tensions continue to rise, the G7’s unified stance signals a coordinated international effort to pressure Iran while supporting regional allies and safeguarding global economic and security interests.
