Nashik’s Harshvardhan Sadgir Wins Maharashtra Kesari Title; CM Urges Wrestlers to Aim for International Glory

Pune, March 2026: Harshvardhan Sadgir from Nashik emerged as the winner of the prestigious 68th Maharashtra Kesari wrestling championship, showcasing exceptional strength and skill in the final मुकाबला. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis congratulated the participants and encouraged wrestlers across the state to set their sights on winning medals at the international level.

The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the tournament held at the late Ajit Pawar Sports Complex in Wagholi, Pune. Addressing the gathering via video message, Fadnavis praised the large participation in the competition and highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting sports. He also announced that the prize money for the Maharashtra Kesari competition has been significantly increased from ₹40 lakh to ₹1 crore.

In the final bout, Harshvardhan Sadgir delivered an impressive performance to clinch the coveted Maharashtra Kesari title. He was awarded a silver mace, a cash prize of ₹5 lakh, and the keys to a Fortuner car by School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse and Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharane.

Mahendra Gaikwad from Solapur secured the runner-up position after a strong performance throughout the tournament. He was honoured with a cash prize of ₹4 lakh along with the keys to a Scorpio vehicle.

Speaking on the occasion, Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse announced a key decision by the state government to establish ‘sports specialist schools’ in every district. He said the initiative aims to encourage students to take up sports from an early age and provide them with structured opportunities to excel.

Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharane also acknowledged the contribution of former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to the development of wrestling in the state. He assured that the government would extend full support to address challenges faced by wrestlers in the future.

The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including MLAs and officials from wrestling federations, along with a large number of enthusiastic spectators, making it a grand and memorable sporting occasion.
