Manchester City Beat Arsenal 2-0 to Lift EFL Cup, Guardiola Sets Record

London, March 2026 : Manchester City defeated Arsenal 2-0 in the EFL Cup Final to claim the title, marking another milestone in the club’s recent dominance in English football.

Youngster Nico O’Reilly emerged as the hero of the final, scoring twice within a span of four minutes in the second half to seal the victory. The first half saw a fairly balanced contest, with both teams creating limited chances. However, City came out stronger after the break, taking control of the game and putting Arsenal under sustained pressure.

Under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, Manchester City secured their fifth EFL Cup title during his tenure, setting a new managerial record in the competition. Guardiola has now surpassed legendary managers such as Brian Clough, Alex Ferguson, and Jose Mourinho, each of whom had won the trophy four times.

Notably, the EFL Cup was also Guardiola’s first trophy with Manchester City, when his side defeated Arsenal 3-0 in the 2018 final. With this latest triumph, he has further cemented his status as the most successful manager in the history of the competition since its inception in 1960.

Arsenal struggled to find momentum in the title clash, failing to break through City’s solid defensive setup and quick transitions. City capitalised on their opponent’s inefficiencies and ensured there was no route back into the game for the Gunners.

Team captain Bernardo Silva praised the squad’s performance after the win, calling it a proud moment for everyone associated with the club. He said defeating a strong Arsenal side that has performed consistently well this season made the victory even more special.

Following the win, Manchester City will now head into the international break before resuming action on April 4 against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final. Guardiola’s side will also shift focus to the Premier League, with an upcoming clash against Chelsea.

Despite this cup success, City remain nine points behind league leaders Arsenal in the Premier League standings, although they have a game in hand. The title race, therefore, remains wide open as the season progresses.
