India Ensures Safe Return of Over 3.75 Lakh Citizens Amid West Asia Conflict: PM Modi
New Delhi, March 2026 : Narendra Modi on Monday said that more than 3,75,000 Indians have been safely brought back from conflict-hit nations in West Asia, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of its citizens abroad.
Addressing the Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister highlighted the significance of West Asia for India, noting that nearly one crore Indians live and work across Gulf countries. He also pointed out the substantial presence of Indian crew members on commercial ships operating in the region, making India’s concerns more pronounced amid the ongoing conflict.
Detailing the government’s response, Modi said that since the outbreak of hostilities, every Indian in affected countries has been provided with necessary assistance. He added that he personally held two rounds of telephonic conversations with leaders of several West Asian nations, all of whom assured the safety and security of Indian nationals.
“During this challenging period, while some Indians have unfortunately lost their lives and others have been injured, the government is extending full support to their families. The injured are receiving the best possible medical care,” he said.
The Prime Minister further stated that Indian missions across the region are actively engaged in assisting citizens, including workers and tourists, ensuring that help reaches everyone in need. “In any crisis, the safety and security of Indians, both within the country and abroad, remains our top priority,” he emphasised.
Providing an update on evacuation efforts, Modi said that more than 3,75,000 Indians have returned safely so far. Of these, nearly 1,000 were evacuated from Iran, including over 700 medical students.
He also addressed concerns regarding the education of Indian students in Gulf countries. Noting that a large number of students study in Indian schools in the region, he said the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has cancelled Class 10 and 12 examinations in affected areas. The board is taking necessary steps to ensure that students’ education continues without disruption.
Reiterating the government’s preparedness, the Prime Minister said that authorities remain vigilant, sensitive, and ready to extend any further assistance required.
