Chhattisgarh Govt Working Continuously for Farmers’ Growth: Deputy CM Vijay Sharma
Raipur, March 2026: Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma said that the Chhattisgarh government is consistently working for the development and welfare of farmers. On the auspicious occasion of Chaitra Navratri Panchami, he laid the foundation stone for the Bhoramdev Sakri Feeder Canal expansion project in Baddo village of Bodla block in Kabirdham district.
The canal expansion project, being constructed at a cost of ₹11.49 crore, is expected to directly benefit farmers from six villages. Once completed, it will provide irrigation facilities to about 770 hectares of agricultural land, leading to increased productivity and higher income for farmers.
Speaking on the occasion, Sharma said that the expansion of the canal will ensure easy water availability to farmlands, benefiting thousands of farmers in the region. He emphasized that the project will not only improve crop yields but also strengthen the rural economy.
He stated that the government’s goal is not just infrastructure development but meaningful initiatives that improve farmers’ lives. The project reflects the government’s commitment to prioritizing development in forest and remote areas, ensuring that even backward regions receive the benefits of development schemes.
The Deputy Chief Minister stressed the importance of public participation, noting that such large projects can only be completed effectively and on time with the cooperation of local communities, especially farmers. He urged villagers to actively support the project, as it is being implemented for their benefit.
He also directed officials to ensure high-quality construction within the stipulated timeline and shared updates on ongoing development works in the district, including improvements in roads, irrigation, education, healthcare, and drinking water facilities.
The project will offer multiple benefits, including addressing irrigation shortages in 635 hectares and ensuring proper irrigation for Kharif crops across the planned 770-hectare area. It will also enhance land value in previously unirrigated areas and improve connectivity through canal service banks.
Farmers will be able to cultivate more than one crop due to improved irrigation, thereby increasing their income and strengthening their economic condition. The scheme is expected to deliver long-term benefits and give a new direction to rural development.
The villages that will directly benefit from the project include Baghutola, Lata, Khirsali, Baddo, Ragghupara, and Chapri, where timely water availability will significantly boost agricultural output.
