Vijay to Launch Election Campaign from Perambur as Tamil Nadu Poll Battle Heats Up
Chennai, March 2026 : Actor-turned-politician Vijay is set to kick off his election campaign from the Perambur constituency in North Chennai on Wednesday, marking a significant moment as political activity intensifies across Tamil Nadu ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for April 23.
The election process is now underway, with the filing of nomination papers set to begin on March 30. The counting of votes will take place on May 4, when the results will also be declared. With the timeline finalised, major political parties have accelerated their preparations, focusing on alliances, candidate selection, and campaign strategies.
Key players such as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and the National Democratic Alliance have stepped up efforts, holding discussions on seat-sharing arrangements and finalising their electoral line-ups. At the same time, parties are working on manifestos and strengthening grassroots outreach.
The 2026 Assembly elections are expected to witness a four-cornered contest. Apart from the DMK and AIADMK-led alliances, Naam Tamilar Katchi and Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, are likely to contest independently, adding a new dimension to the electoral landscape.
Although candidates for all 234 constituencies are yet to be officially घोषित, Vijay’s expected debut from Perambur has already generated significant interest. His entry into politics is being closely watched, particularly for its potential impact on urban constituencies where his popularity as an actor could influence voter sentiment.
In preparation for the campaign, Vijay has reportedly set up a base in Kannadasan Nagar near Kodungaiyur, where a ceremonial puja will be held to mark the formal start of his election activities. Following the ceremony, he is expected to begin canvassing in Perambur, engaging directly with voters and seeking their support.
Vijay is likely to spend the next couple of days touring local areas, interacting with residents, and outlining his party’s vision as part of an intensive outreach programme. His campaign launch is expected to draw considerable public attention and could energise his party’s cadre across the state.
With campaigning set to gather pace, Tamil Nadu is gearing up for a high-stakes electoral battle, with all parties working to strengthen their positions and connect with voters in the run-up to polling day.
