State-Level Workshop on Child Protection Held

Raipur, March 2026 : A one-day state-level workshop on child protection was organised by the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights to address sensitive issues related to children and to strengthen the safeguarding of their rights.

Inaugurating the workshop, Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Rajwade emphasised the need for a compassionate and supportive environment to help children reach their full potential. She said that true progress can only be achieved when society begins to treat every child as its own. “The mindset that every child belongs to us will shape a better future,” she remarked, adding that stronger coordination among various departments would further reinforce the child protection system.

Chairperson of the State Commission, Dr Varnika Sharma, highlighted that children are the foundation of the nation and ensuring their safety is not just a duty but a matter of sensitivity. She stressed the importance of moving beyond discussions to concrete action plans. Referring to her visits to various districts, she underlined the need to improve basic facilities in border areas and to ensure a family-like environment in child care institutions.

During the technical sessions, Shaista Shah, a representative from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, provided insights into school safety measures and the POCSO tracking portal. Raipur Commissioner Dr Sanjeev Shukla spoke about the crucial role of law enforcement in handling child-related issues sensitively and offered guidance on preventing child trafficking.

Key topics discussed during the workshop included the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, eradication of substance abuse, establishment of de-addiction centres, and strengthening aftercare mechanisms for children.

The workshop was attended by district education officers, district child protection officers, members of Special Juvenile Police Units (SJPU), and officials from police and other concerned departments across the state.

The primary objective of the workshop was to develop a coordinated and effective action plan to ensure the protection of children’s rights and to secure a brighter future for them.
