Prepare Redevelopment Plan for Pratiksha Nagar on Abhyudaya Nagar Model: CM Devendra Fadnavis
Mumbai, March 2026 : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive redevelopment plan for Pratiksha Nagar in Mumbai, modeled on the successful Abhyudaya Nagar project. He emphasised that residents should be actively involved in the process and assured that efforts must be made to fulfil their dream of better, larger homes through the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).
The Chief Minister was speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony of the ‘Sahakar Bhavan’ at Sion, which will serve as a dedicated and comprehensive facility for the cooperative sector in Mumbai. The event also included the virtual inauguration of a service, guidance, and training centre run by the Mumbai Housing Federation Ltd. at Kannamwar Nagar in Vikhroli.
Fadnavis stated that the concept of Sahakar Bhavan is aimed at bringing all cooperative-related services under one roof. The building will offer modern infrastructure, including conference halls, training rooms, and administrative facilities to support the functioning and growth of cooperative institutions.
Highlighting the importance of the cooperative sector in Maharashtra, he said special legal provisions have been introduced for cooperative housing societies to streamline their operations. The government has also implemented 100 percent digitisation, decentralisation of offices, and several administrative reforms to make processes more efficient and transparent.
He further noted that the self-redevelopment policy has given a major boost to housing societies across Mumbai. At present, more than 1,600 redevelopment projects are underway, with many more in the pipeline. Efforts are being made at both the state and central levels to ensure easier access to financing for such projects.
Fadnavis also spoke about initiatives aimed at women’s empowerment. Under the ‘Ladki Bahin’ scheme, financial assistance is being provided to women to help them start businesses and become self-reliant. He noted that around 2,000 women have already benefited from the initiative.
Cooperation Minister Babasaheb Patil highlighted various schemes launched by the Mumbai District Central Cooperative Bank and said that the state government has taken several policy decisions and provided incentives to promote self-redevelopment. He also mentioned that a separate authority has been established for cooperative housing societies to strengthen governance and support.
Patil added that the Mumbai Bank has introduced loan facilities for mill and Mathadi workers, zero-balance account drives for women, and interest-free loan schemes, reflecting its commitment to social responsibility.
The establishment of Sahakar Bhavan is expected to provide a new direction to the cooperative movement in Maharashtra by offering modern facilities, training, and institutional support. Officials expressed confidence that the cooperative sector, rooted in strong traditions, will continue to generate employment opportunities for youth and women while contributing significantly to the state’s economic development.
