Athletics Events of Khelo India Tribal Games to Begin in Jagdalpur from Monday
Raipur, March 2026: A new chapter in sports is set to unfold in Bastar, the heart of Chhattisgarh’s natural heritage, as the athletics events of the Khelo India Tribal Games 2026 begin in Jagdalpur from Monday. Following the grand inauguration held in Raipur, all eyes are now on the Dharampura sports complex in Jagdalpur, where thrilling athletics competitions will commence from March 30.

The event’s mascot, “Mor Veer,” symbolises the courage and energy of tribal youth. Launched under the chief guestship of Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the mega sporting event is now entering one of its most anticipated phases. Around 443 talented athletes from 27 states and Union Territories will compete to showcase their sporting excellence.
A total of 17 disciplines will be featured in the athletics segment, ranging from the high-speed 100-metre sprint to the endurance-testing 10,000-metre race. Other key events include hurdles, relay races, and field events such as high jump and long jump, which are expected to draw significant attention. On the opening day itself, finals in events like discus throw, long jump, and 110-metre hurdles will take place. By evening, winners in the 400-metre race and relay events will be awarded medals, adding to the excitement.
In total, athletes will compete for 102 medals in athletics, with 33 local athletes from Chhattisgarh ready to represent the state with pride.
At the administrative level, extensive arrangements have been made to ensure the event meets international standards. The Sports and Youth Welfare Department, in coordination with the district administration, has identified 13 major hotels in the city for athletes’ accommodation. Air-conditioned transport facilities have also been arranged for their movement.
Robust arrangements for security, medical support, and fire safety have been put in place. Additionally, the Tourism Department has planned visits for athletes and officials to Bastar’s famous tourist destinations, allowing them to experience the region’s natural beauty and unique culture alongside the competition.
Organised under the guidance of the Sports Authority of India, the athletics competition aims not only to provide a national platform for tribal talent but also to establish Bastar as an emerging global sports destination.
