Pushkar Development Plan: Government Targets World-Class Pilgrimage Hub
Jaipur, March 2026 : Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said that Pushkar, revered as “Tirthraj” (king of pilgrimage sites), holds immense mythological and spiritual significance, and the state government is committed to developing it into a world-class pilgrimage destination while preserving its rich heritage.
Addressing a meeting at the Chief Minister’s Office on Monday to review the development roadmap for Pushkar, Sharma said the government aims to enhance the town’s divinity and grandeur while giving it a renewed and modern identity. He emphasised that development will be carried out in a planned manner to strengthen cultural connections for future generations and boost the local economy.
The Chief Minister issued detailed directions for the beautification of temples, including the iconic Brahma Temple, as well as for improving facilities for pilgrims and residents. He highlighted the importance of public participation, stating that suggestions and cooperation from citizens would play a key role in making development initiatives more effective.
During the meeting, officials made detailed presentations on multiple aspects of the proposed plan. These included the development of facilities at the ghats of the Pushkar Lake, beautification of temples and circumambulation routes (parikrama paths), construction of a grand entry plaza, and improvement of road infrastructure.
Sadhus, mahants, and local residents from Pushkar participated in the meeting and shared their suggestions for the town’s development. They expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for prioritising the project and involving stakeholders in the planning process. Earlier, Sharma welcomed the religious leaders by honouring them with ceremonial shawls.
The initiative seeks to strike a balance between preserving Pushkar’s ancient cultural and spiritual identity and introducing modern amenities to enhance the experience for visitors. By focusing on infrastructure, aesthetics, and accessibility, the government aims to position Pushkar as a prominent global pilgrimage and tourism hub.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Bhagirath Choudhary, Water Resources Minister Suresh Singh Rawat, Rajasthan Heritage Authority Chairman Omkar Singh Lakhawat, Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, along with other officials and representatives from Pushkar.
