Chief Secretary V. Srinivas Inspects Jaipur Walled City, Orders Mission-Mode Heritage Conservation

Jaipur, March 2026 : Chief Secretary V. Srinivas on Tuesday conducted an extensive inspection of the walled city area (Parikota) of Jaipur, directing officials to undertake conservation, preservation and beautification works in mission mode to maintain its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

During the visit, the Chief Secretary walked through the narrow lanes of the historic city to assess ground realities and closely examine the condition of heritage structures. He inspected several key locations, including Nataniyon Ki Haveli, Khajane Walon Ka Rasta, Jaimini Building, Digambar Jain Temple, Rajasthan School of Art and the heritage walk pathways, among other sites.

At Nataniyon Ki Haveli, he reviewed the functioning of the Kotwali police station operating within the premises and examined decades-old preserved records. He instructed officials to take prompt action for the conservation of the historic structure. At Khajane Walon Ka Rasta, he inspected the haveli and Jaimini Building, seeking historical details and directing their preservation.

He also visited the Digambar Jain Temple in Maniharon Ka Rasta and the Rajasthan School of Art located at Sango Ka Rasta, along with heritage walk areas. Senior officials, including Secretary Ravi Jain, Divisional Commissioner V. Saravanan Kumar, Commissioner Gaurav Saini and other administrative officers, were present during the inspection.

Emphasising Jaipur’s historical significance, Srinivas said the city is a living symbol of India’s rich culture and heritage, and preserving its identity is a collective responsibility. He stressed the need for sustained efforts to maintain its aesthetic and historical value and issued directives for focused initiatives to strengthen conservation and ensure the continuation of its UNESCO World Heritage status.

Following the inspection, the Chief Secretary chaired a बैठक (meeting) at the municipal corporation headquarters, where he reviewed ongoing and planned works related to heritage conservation. Officials presented updates through a heritage cell presentation on preservation, promotion and beautification efforts.

He issued key instructions, including the removal of unauthorized cables, repair of non-functional streetlights and façade lighting in heritage zones, early preparation of a Special Area Heritage Plan, and making the heritage cell more active, accountable and result-oriented in its functioning.
