Bondi Breaks Silence After Trump Fires Her as Attorney General
Washington, April 2026 : Former US Attorney General Pam Bondi has spoken out after being dismissed by Donald Trump, bringing an abrupt end to her 14-month tenure at the Department of Justice (DOJ).
In a statement posted on X, Bondi defended her record, calling her tenure “easily the most consequential first year of the Department of Justice in American history.” She expressed gratitude to Trump, saying she was “eternally grateful” for the trust he had placed in her.
The announcement came just hours after Trump confirmed her removal via a post on Truth Social, where he described Bondi as “a great American patriot and a loyal friend,” while indicating she would be moving on from government service. Her exit makes her the second Cabinet member to be removed during Trump’s second term, following Kristi Noem.
Bondi revealed that Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will take over leadership responsibilities during the transition period. She said she plans to move into the private sector, a shift she described as exciting, adding that she looks forward to continuing to support Trump and his administration in a different capacity.
Her tenure, however, was marked by significant controversy, particularly surrounding the handling of investigations linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The issue became a major political challenge for the administration and is widely seen as a factor that may have contributed to Trump’s decision to replace her.
Despite the criticism, Bondi maintained that her time at the DOJ focused on strengthening national security and public safety. “Leading President Trump’s historic efforts to make America safer has been the honor of a lifetime,” she said.
She added that over the next month, she will oversee a smooth transition of leadership before formally stepping down and taking up a new role outside government.
