CSK Opt to Bowl Against RCB in High-Stakes IPL Clash at Chinnaswamy

Bengaluru, April 2026 : Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their Indian Premier League 2026 encounter at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday.

The match promises to be a high-scoring contest, with both teams entering the game with contrasting objectives. While RCB are aiming to register their second consecutive win of the season, CSK are eager to open their account after a slow start.

After winning the toss, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad cited the batting-friendly nature of the pitch as a key factor behind his decision. “It’s a high-scoring ground and looks like a good wicket. There should be plenty of runs, so we’ll try to restrict them as much as possible,” he said. Gaikwad also mentioned that senior player MS Dhoni is gradually regaining fitness and could return to action soon.

Reflecting on CSK’s recent performances, Gaikwad admitted that the opening game was disappointing but expressed confidence after an improved showing in their previous outing. “Our batting looked much better in the second game, and the team is feeling confident,” he added.

On the other hand, RCB captain Rajat Patidar said his side was equally comfortable batting first on what appears to be a fresh surface. “We were looking to bowl first, but the pitch looks hard and good for batting. The team performed well in the last match and we want to continue that momentum,” he noted, highlighting the clarity in roles and strong confidence within the squad.

Historically, CSK have dominated the head-to-head record with 21 wins compared to RCB’s 13. However, at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB hold a slight edge with six wins against CSK’s five, making this contest even more intriguing.

According to the pitch report by Ian Bishop and Faf du Plessis, the ground dimensions—61 metres on one side, 68 metres on the other, and 74 metres straight—favour aggressive strokeplay. They noted that while the surface is ideal for batting, early breakthroughs with the new ball could prove crucial. Spinners, too, might play a role as the match progresses.

Both teams have opted to go in with unchanged playing XIs, underlining their confidence in the combinations that featured in their previous matches. With star players on both sides and conditions favouring big scores, fans can expect an entertaining and closely fought encounter in Bengaluru.
