₹35,000 Crore Development Works Planned for Simhastha Kumbh Mela, Says Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Nashik, April 2026 : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that development works worth ₹35,000 crore are being undertaken to make the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela at Nashik-Trimbakeshwar grand and memorable. He said extensive planning is being carried out to provide better facilities for devotees, and guidance from saints and seers will play a crucial role in the process.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the concluding session of a two-day meeting of the Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti’s national executive, held at the Shri Swaminarayan Temple in Tapovan. Several prominent religious leaders and dignitaries were present at the event.
Fadnavis stated that efforts are underway to ensure devotees can take a holy dip in the clean and flowing waters of the Godavari River. Measures are being implemented to maintain a perennial flow of the river at Trimbakeshwar. A water purification project has also been initiated for Kushavart.
He highlighted that multiple infrastructure projects are currently in progress, including the development of roads to Trimbakeshwar, the Nashik parikrama route, improved facilities at railway stations, expansion of ghats, conservation of ancient temples, widening of approach roads to temples, and expansion of Ozar Airport. A decision has also been taken to acquire permanent land for Sadhugram, where all essential infrastructure will be developed.
The Chief Minister further informed that a Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Development Authority has been established on the lines of Prayagraj to ensure systematic and detailed planning. A team of officials from Nashik had also visited Prayagraj to study its arrangements.
He noted that the number of devotees expected at the upcoming Kumbh Mela could be ten times higher than the previous event, and preparations are being made accordingly. Suggestions from saints, mahants, and akharas will also be incorporated into the development plans.
Emphasizing the importance of spiritual leaders, Fadnavis said that saints have played a vital role in preserving Indian culture over centuries. While many ancient cultures across the world have faded, Indian culture has remained vibrant and evolving due to the contributions of saints who guided society and removed social evils.
He also highlighted the role of Maharashtra’s Warkari tradition, which has preserved spiritual practices despite numerous challenges. The Kumbh Mela, he said, reflects this enduring tradition and serves as a symbol of India’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
Describing the Kumbh Mela as the largest spiritual gathering in the world, the Chief Minister said it is not just about ritual bathing but also about purification of the mind and soul, exchange of ideas, and spiritual guidance from saints.
He added that the event represents national unity, as people from all communities participate in it. Expressing confidence, Fadnavis said the upcoming Kumbh Mela will be a truly unforgettable experience.
He also mentioned that the Maharashtra Freedom of Religion Bill will help curb malpractices in society and ensure strict action against fraudulent activities.
Several saints and leaders also shared their views at the event, which was attended by public representatives and religious figures from across the country.
