Kurmi Kshatriya Community Has a Glorious Past: Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma
Raipur, April 2026 : Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma said that the Kurmi Kshatriya community has a proud and glorious history, and emphasized the importance of strengthening social unity through such gatherings. He was addressing the 56th annual convention of the Chandranahu Kurmi Kshatriya Samaj, Durg Raj, held at Jamgaon (M) in Patan development block of Durg district.
Durg Rural MLA and Vice-Chairman of the State Backward Classes Development Authority, Lalit Chandrakar, was present as a special guest at the event.
While addressing the gathering, Vijay Sharma said that great leaders like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who are associated with the community, have played a significant role in shaping the nation. He added that conventions like these are essential to strengthen social organization and unity. He also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be among members of the Kurmi community.
The Deputy Chief Minister appreciated the strong participation of women in the convention and highlighted the importance of empowering them. Referring to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that efforts are being made to ensure 33 percent reservation for women in legislative bodies, including Parliament and State Assemblies. He mentioned that a special session of Parliament is scheduled on the 16th, 17th, and 18th to advance this objective.
Sharma also credited security forces for efforts toward making Chhattisgarh, including Bastar, free from Naxalism. He shared the government’s journey toward establishing peace and stability in the region.
During the event, he honored progressive farmer Pooja Chandrakar, successful entrepreneur Vinod Chandrakar, and artist Pappu Chandrakar with traditional shawls and coconuts in recognition of their achievements.
Responding to community demands, the Deputy Chief Minister announced the construction of a dome shed and stage at the Kurmi Bhavan in Jamgaon (M). He also announced ₹12 lakh for the construction of a community hall for the Kurmi society in Tarra village.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Lalit Chandrakar emphasized that both education and organization are crucial for the development of society. He said that collective efforts can achieve any goal and stressed the importance of education in raising social awareness. He also called upon women to take a leading role in the community’s progress.
The event was attended by central and state-level office bearers of the Chandranahu Kurmi Kshatriya Samaj, along with a large number of community members.
