Khademi Killed in US-Israeli Strikes as Conflict Claims More Top Iranian Officials

Tehran, April 2026 : As the conflict in West Asia continues to intensify beyond a month, Iran’s security establishment has suffered another major blow with the reported killing of Major General Majid Khademi, the intelligence chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), in US-Israeli strikes.

The IRGC confirmed Khademi’s death in a statement posted on its official Telegram channel, describing him as a “powerful and educated” leader who was killed in what it termed a “criminal terrorist attack” carried out by American and Israeli forces at dawn. The announcement marks one of the most significant high-level casualties for Iran in the ongoing conflict.

Israeli officials also acknowledged the operation, with Defence Minister Israel Katz confirming Khademi’s assassination and issuing a stern warning directed at Iran’s top leadership, signalling the possibility of further targeted strikes.

Khademi had assumed the role of IRGC intelligence chief after the death of his predecessor, Mohammad Kazemi, who was killed during a previous phase of hostilities in June 2025. Over the course of his career, Khademi held several critical intelligence and counter-espionage positions, gradually rising through the ranks of Iran’s security apparatus.

Before leading the IRGC’s intelligence wing, he headed the organisation’s Intelligence Protection unit, which is responsible for internal surveillance, counter-intelligence operations, and safeguarding sensitive military information. He also served in senior roles within Iran’s defence ministry, earning a reputation as a key figure in the country’s intelligence network.

The IRGC’s intelligence arm is one of the most powerful institutions in Iran, reporting directly to the Supreme Leader and operating with significant autonomy. It has frequently been linked to the detention of foreign nationals and individuals with international ties, and has been accused by Western governments of involvement in overseas operations targeting political opponents of Iran’s regime.

Khademi’s death comes amid a broader wave of high-profile assassinations and strikes targeting Iran’s leadership. Among those reportedly killed earlier in the conflict is Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with senior political figure Ali Larijani, who died in an airstrike in Tehran in March.

Other senior figures who have reportedly been killed include top security adviser Ali Shamkhani, IRGC commander Mohammad Pakpour, armed forces chief Abdolrahim Mousavi, and defence minister Aziz Nasirzadeh.

The continued targeting of Iran’s top leadership underscores the escalating intensity of the conflict, raising concerns about further destabilisation in the region. Analysts warn that such high-level assassinations could provoke stronger retaliatory actions, potentially widening the scope of the war and deepening geopolitical tensions.
