PM Narendra Modi Urges Voters to End TMC Rule in Bengal, Promises Probe into Corruption
Kolkata, April 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress during his final campaign rally in West Bengal ahead of the crucial two-phase Assembly elections next month. Addressing a gathering in Kushmandi in South Dinajpur district, he called upon voters to bring an end to what he described as 15 years of “rule based on lies, corruption, and terror.”
In his address, Modi reminded the electorate of the state’s political history, stating that West Bengal had already given long tenures to previous governments. “You gave 34 years to the Left Front, and then you gave three consecutive terms to the Trinamool Congress, which has been in power for the last 15 years. They have continued to win elections by making false promises and targeting me with abuse,” he said.
Questioning the development record of the incumbent government, Modi asked voters to reflect on the state’s progress. “If there has been no significant development in the last 15 years, how can there be any progress in the next five years if the same government returns to power?” he said, urging people to vote for change in the upcoming elections.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the state had suffered due to what he termed a governance model marked by corruption and fear. “For 15 years, West Bengal has witnessed a system driven by corruption and terror. It is time to end this and give a new direction to the state,” he said, appealing to voters to give the Bharatiya Janata Party an opportunity to govern.
Outlining his party’s promises, Modi said that if the BJP comes to power in West Bengal, it will constitute a special committee to investigate alleged corruption and misrule during the Trinamool Congress regime. According to him, the panel would include retired judges from the Supreme Court to ensure credibility and transparency.
“This committee will bring out the truth behind years of corruption and ensure justice for those who have suffered. Our goal is to restore faith among the people and provide them with an environment of peace and development,” he said.
The Prime Minister also made a strong pitch on women’s safety, promising strict action against crimes. He assured that all pending cases related to rape and rape-cum-murder in the state would be reopened if the BJP forms the government. “This is my guarantee to the women of West Bengal. Every such case will be reviewed, and no culprit will be spared,” Modi asserted.
Earlier in the day, Modi addressed two other rallies at Katwa in East Burdwan district and Jangipur in Murshidabad district, concluding an intensive campaign tour in the state. His speeches largely focused on governance issues, law and order, and alleged corruption under the current regime.
With the Assembly elections approaching, Modi’s rallies are seen as a key effort by the BJP to consolidate support and position itself as a strong alternative to the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal.
