Mumbai Indians Opt to Bowl Against RCB in High-Stakes IPL Clash
Mumbai, April 2026 : Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to field as Mumbai Indians took on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Match 20 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
Electing to bowl first, Pandya expressed confidence in the conditions, stating that the pitch looked promising and that chasing has historically been advantageous at the Wankhede. He emphasised the importance of executing basics well, both with the ball and bat. “It’s a big game, and the focus is on playing good cricket and enjoying the contest,” Pandya said, adding that knowing the target always provides clarity during the chase.
Mumbai Indians made two changes to their playing XI, bringing in Mitchell Santner and Mayank Markande in place of AM Ghazanfar and Deepak Chahar. The changes indicate a strategic adjustment, likely aimed at strengthening both spin options and bowling depth for the crucial encounter.
On the other side, Rajat Patidar, leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru, admitted he would have also opted to bowl first had he won the toss, but downplayed its overall impact. He highlighted the positives from his team’s recent performances, particularly their ability to post big totals, including a 200-plus score in their previous outing.
Patidar acknowledged the challenge of playing at Wankhede, where home support for Mumbai Indians can be overwhelming. However, he viewed it as an opportunity for his side to rise to the occasion. “There’s strong backing for the home team here, which makes it challenging, but it’s also a great opportunity for us,” he said.
RCB made one change to their lineup, with Jacob Duffy coming in for Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood. The move adds variety to their bowling attack as they look to counter Mumbai’s strong batting lineup.
The clash features several high-profile players, including Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav for Mumbai, while RCB’s batting will rely heavily on stalwarts like Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal.
With both teams eager to gain crucial points in the tournament, the match promises to be an exciting contest. Mumbai Indians will look to capitalise on home conditions and their chasing strength, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru aim to put up a strong total and challenge the hosts under pressure.
