On Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti, CM Dedicates Water ATMs to the Public in Shalimar Bagh
New Delhi, April 2026 : Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta on Tuesday paid heartfelt tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, remembering his life, ideals and lasting contribution to the nation. She offered floral tributes at his statue at 26, Alipur Road, his Mahaparinirvan site and paid homage to Babasaheb’s legacy. To mark the occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated and formally dedicated state of the art water ATMs for public use in the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency.
Speaking at Babasaheb’s Mahaparinirvan site, Gupta said Dr. Ambedkar devoted his entire life to the empowerment of Dalits and other marginalised sections of society. Describing him as a foundational pillar of India’s democracy, she said the country’s vast democratic framework stands firmly on the principles he laid down. She added that his life and ideas continue to inspire people to move forward on the path of equality, justice and self-respect. Referring to his enduring call ‘Educate, Organise, and Agitate’ the Chief Minister said the message remains as relevant today as ever in empowering every section of society. She termed it a privilege to pay tribute at his Mahaparinirvan site.
In Shalimar Bagh, Gupta inaugurated water ATMs at GP Block and Beriwala Bagh Block, noting that providing access to clean drinking water on Ambedkar Jayanti is a meaningful step towards realising his vision. A total of seven water ATMs have been installed across wards 55, 56 and 57 in the constituency. She also distributed water ATM cards to local residents to ensure regular access to safe drinking water. Equipped with modern technology, these facilities are expected to play a key role in providing clean, safe and easily accessible water to the public.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Chief Minister said the Delhi government is working to carry forward Babasaheb’s ideals by ensuring that the benefits of development reach the last person. She said policies and programmes are being designed to enable every citizen to live with dignity, especially those who have remained outside the mainstream of development.
Gupta added that the government’s goal is to provide clean drinking water and other basic services to every resident. Efforts are underway to develop Shalimar Bagh as a model constituency, one where every household has access to essential amenities, every section of society is treated with dignity, and public services reach all. She said the principles of equality and equal rights championed by Babasaheb continue to guide the Delhi government’s work, as it strives to build a more inclusive, empowered and developed capital.
